The problem is...

Poi are much harder to use than staffs.
They have a life of their own and will happily swing by themselves.

Staffs are stubborn bastards (and often spun by the same too) and won't do anything unless told to.
Contact is just dropping your staff, then trying unsuccesfully to catch it with your elbow.

Thus staff deserves no philosophy other than
"Staff is bonk"

It's no coincidence that staff is one letter away from "stuff", where as poi is only 3 letters away from "art"

poi is one letter away from poo. Staff is 5 letters away from deity. and for a final fact, durbs is eight letters away from shithead.

Though you're expression of the philosophy of staff was spot on, I couldn't have put it more concisely myself, and I have been studing it for many many years. Obviously staff represents well, and poi the other two bits of the male anatomy and we all know what that means don't we....

Didn't actually mean to call you a shithead, I was hoping hop would put a thing there instead to increase the mystery of my insult. Plus 2bags forced me into it. twat.

i wouldn't listen to 2bags, he's a poi spinner he is an WE all know how dodgy they are. would catch me dead with a pair of floppy balls in my hand oh-no. it's far to easy. as this page proves staff is obviously for intelligent people who like hard things like willies which is much better. i reckon we should all go beat up those dreadful wussy poi spinners with their poncy philospophy... who's with me?

for the person willing to invest a bit of their life into something they can be passionate about, of course a philosophy will arise!

This cult of comparison will cause dissatisfaction.
If you had never seen a poi being twirled (took me about a coupla months) would your opinions on staff philosophy remain so?
Far from being something that should be held in competition, I find that the philosophies in Poi and Staff (and for that matter, dance and martial arts) to compatible, with little adjustment.

There's *much* to be gained in exploring the common ground than there is in examining differences.

on a personal note, I'm learning poi before I learn staff just to get used to spinning with fire itself. Don't get me wrong, I like the poi but definately want to learn the staff (soonish)
Poi is just easier....(to start with) IMO

On a side note, I've laughed alot more reading this thread than half the poi threads. I guess more men then women tend to do staff & vice versa with poi.....

trying to figure out if I'd blanked the gay porn from my memory and overwritten it with a more pleasing memory of contact gone wrong. Total recall stylee.
