I will conduct this experiement at a concert on this saturday, as well as a trivia team tournament on friday (The finals :S I'm so nervous!) and post my scientific results  Hugs to you all!

This is also the sheep and chook herding motion. Maybe its to do with facial stuff too. Like the smile. If you try it with sad/grumpy face would it work.
I watched a little boy put both arms out to block a little girl running past and she thought he wanted a hug so grabbed in with zest. The boy backpedaled in horror and ran away with the girl chasing him.

It worked.
Therefore, I recommend everyone going out and trying it on strangers on the street and telling me how it worked.
