New video compilation COL2005

Surely what we all enjoy about these videos is seeing people who have obviously practised and trained and been dedicated enough to become good and enjoyable to watch.

I hate to admit this, but some of us (me) have never seen a COL. So I have a question that I hope you people can answer for me.

With the video submission, if we have music we have to have it authorized by the musician to make sure that we don't get sued and all of that other legal mumbo jumbo. That's understandable, not getting sued is a good idea. However, my question is, if a person turns in a video with no music does Malcom put in music or is their video simply muted?

hmm... Video Submission... makes it sound kind of naughty. Like B&D, S&M.... time to get necked!

As a total beginner, I have the COL2 & 5, and they're fantastic. A great way to learn, be inspired, etc. And I like having a few non-poi arts sprinkled through it - in case we're not familiar with other stuff going on. But I agree that it makes sense to keep the focus on poi in the "Home of Poi" videos. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but I don't recall much glowstick/ball/lights stuff, which I would very much like to see.

I know it's difficult to get legal clearances for music, but my one suggestion would be to either require people to submit with music, or give them choices - like here are the 10 tracks we have, you must use one - because when the routine doesn't fit the music, it's distracting and/or irritating.

Really glad you're going to do another one! (I always misremember the name as Carnival of Light, anyway, so I'm okay with changing the name.)

I'm sorry, I would feel totally awkward sending in glowstick/glowstringing footage to CoL. It feels like a whole different scene and group of people.

I will however, most probably be sending in some fire footage - just because I love it.

mmm I think Kael should send in some glowstringing stuff as I reckon many fireys out there could learn from it. Perhaps put a couple of minutes on the end of your fire section?

i think if spherculist can spin a staff for four minutes without making any circles then he should still be allowed to enter. everyone should stop being so damn shapist.

i think "circles of light" refers to the dots of colour that appear in front of your eyes when you hit yourself in the head with your chosen prop. i have achieved these "circles of light" with pretty much all the toys we've been discussing (both lit and unlit), so i think you can probably enter with any of them.

haha, i can't spin staff at all, well, you know. Poi wibbling isn't very circular tho. MAinly playing 2diablo at the moment tho, no lights at all cos they are supidly expensive and make your diabli even heavier.... so i guess no entry.

That's a bit weak eh matt? You've always been my half-techy side of inspiration for poi and you're a no go?
