Thanks for the support guys, it's working.
Thistle, thanks for the message. Here it is to get everyone else up to speed:
"One of the politicians I emailed about Ningaloo has sent me a reply. It includes a letter from Dr Judy Edwards MLA
MINISTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND HERITAGE, who says amongst other things...
"The EPA is currently progressing its assessment of the proposal, and will take into consideration, amongst other things, all the environmental issues raised in the submissions and the proponent's response to those issues. Following completion of its assessment, the EPA will report to me on the environmental acceptability of the proposal.""
As it says, Dr Judy Edwards is the Minister for the Environment and the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is the govt. dept. responsible for reviewing environmental impact statements. The EPA will give a recommendation yes or no to Dr Judy, then she has the last word. As with all these govt agencies, they will not always do the right thing, but at least we have the fact that the party in power in this state is the Labor party which has stated that it has heard the people speak out against the development in such an obvious and strong way that it will stand behind what the people want. Wether this means that Dr Judy is already against the proposal, we don't know.
The current Labor govt has already proven it's commitment to conservation by relisting large areas of old growth forest as protected instead of open to logging. There has been a vigorous campaign going on this front for years and it wasn't until just recently that there was any progress. A small victory in a world of problems.
