I haven't had a spin on my own/in private with fire for ages. There've always been loads of scary scary people watching so I've been too cautious to try out some trickier things that I've been working on.

Tonight I spun at home with only my mum watching and acting as my safety .

- 360 btb weave smoothly no problem . YAY! [Big Grin]
- Buzzsaw without a hiccup . WAHOO!
- Rev. 5 beat weave (which I only got about 2 days ago) perfect . WAHAY!
- This nice little transition with btb butterfly I've been struggling with was seamless. OMG Go Napalm Fariy GO!

Then I go to do a basic move I (and the rest of the poi population of the universe) have been doing since they started spinning. High turn from backwards to forwards. All is ok....the SUDDENLY.....Get confused.....For no apparent reason. Two ROARING FUIREBALLS hurtle onwards...... Destination: THE FACE..... [Eek!] EEEEEEK!........... DUCK!!!.....To no avail...NOOOOOOOOO......THE EVIL POI ATTACK! [Eek!] Seconds pass as hours........SH!T......Fluffy Napalm Fairy flings the offending fire toys viciously to the ground where they can commit no further crime.......WRONG! The cardinal sin:

quote:
"Don't you go burning that grass! I've got this lawn looking really smart! Pick them up! They're scorching the....."
whatthehellisthatsupposedtomean?surelyyoucannotbeserious?thisisnotpartoftheact?

Huh? HUH???? [Confused] I've burned of all the hair on the right side of my face. Including the eyelashes!! I LOOK LIKE A MUTANT. AND I'm you're daughter! [Frown] And You worry about the grass! What's wrong with you? [Mad]

Poi retrieved and extinguished in disbelief. That'll teach them. [Mad] NOT SO SCARY NOW YOU SMOULDERING LUMPS OF UGLINESS.......HA!
Mother found on hands and knees nursing grass back to life.

* Exit stage right to call the men in white coats.......*

*************

So - I definitely still have and still show extreme respect for the fire. I always have and hopefully always will. Nothing was different this evening. But it seems my chief safety has become complacent. I've never had an accident with fire before. I'm not burned, just a bit wiser and a bit less hairy. It seems that my mother has stopped worrying about the dangers as she's seen me do it without an incident so many times she has become over-trusting and underestimates the danger. It was not on purpose obviously, but this put me at risk.
I had complete trust in her to look after me and when it came to it she didn't. I won't be making that mistake again. I'm glad it wasn't more serious. Make sure your safety will look after you.

Sorry to hear about your close shave. I've never tried it with fire...but I think it'd be cool. Thanks for pointing out how neccessary it is to have a safety...otherwise my idiot self would have eventually gone out, bought everything I needed, and then started spinning the fire around with not a soul in sight.

lol. No, this isn't serious. Just a bit of a singed face! Eyebrow's not too bad - just a but curly, but eyelashes are short on one side [Big Grin] [Big Grin] I posted it more of a funny incident than a big scary happening.

Doesn't even compare with Pele's recent accident. *sends some happy thoughts her way*

hope you don't haev any future accidents....

There have been many close calls lately...

My friend was Fire Breathing and it came very close to whipping back into his face... his eyelashes arent quite the same..

Anyone know 'bairy fen'?
he had a bit of an accident after stilt walking and broke both wrists. OUCH! He aparently got off the stilts safely, was walking away and tripped landing on both hands amidst glass and other not nice things on the floor...

Yeah safety! Something to always think about... You never know whats going to happen! Always be prepared!

Much love, drome...

When poin attacks........
This happened to my friend using my fluffy poi at a party saturday night. Its a good job it wasnt normal poi or fire poi.

The fact that we caught the effect on camera is what makes it amusing!

Thanks for the reminder of the importance of having someone spot you when you're playing with fire though!
