Thanks for this post.. Having seen the cone poi in London and not being prepared to pay £20 for them i made my own using the basis of the measurements above.

End result:

They have my bean bag thuds in the end and thus far, they are lovely. The drawstring needs work, but i have no string in the house

You can actually buy these from Oddballs in Camden. They don't have them on the web site but if you go ito the shop and ask nicly they'll sort you out.

They had a great big box of them last time. I paid £25 for mine which is a bit steep but they did look amazing in UV and are great to spin!

Although now I've gone and spilt them in about 3-4 places from two much spinning. After about 4-5 months they lasted!

I'm hopfully pursuaded someone to make me some more.

I'll make some more then. From the magical orange fabric that took me 2 years to find and lasts for a lot longer than 4-5 months?

I've been bouncing this sort of idea aroundin my head...

a fire version:
very small wick...
the smaller part of the "kite" shape is made from a fine wire mesh, kinda like mosquito mesh. fine enough to block a certain amount of heat, but big enough to allow the light from the flame through.
the larger part of the "kite" made from different heat resistant (but fairly "light") fabric. each plane of this section a different colour(ie. 4 colours).

the idea is that the firelight shines through the bottom of the cone and lights up coloured fabric.

(i wish i knew how to explain things better)

I make mine the same as the HOP ones now with a slit half way up to get the ball in/out. Saves the laces coming undone and makes it heaps easier.
Before though I was using dayglo cloth for the lacing so it make interesting pattern when spinning.

Yeah, I make (or get my mum to make ) mine with a slit in the side too, it lets you have a more rounded and cleaner looking end without any dangling bits.

I don't like dangly bits as when they're inside or inverted they sometimes hit you in the face

I tend to tuck the dangly bits in so this doesn't happen.

Have found a slit left near the side bottom is neater than a drawstring. Much easier to sew as well

i tend to tie the drawstring tight as possible, knot it a few times then cut it. using weights other than juggling balls, so not necessary to be taking the balls in and out - much more permanent

might try some other designs once i'm on holidays
thanks guys

Can someone please tell me who made these (the poi in nicks feet) and can they make me a similar pair.

Iv just been trying to make some new poi and nothing is spinning the way I want it to. And I have great memories of using these (not sure if it was before or after nick had them in his feet maybe that’s why I got athletes hand )

I think they where ether Mr Johnny’s or Simian’s

Just iv been away from poi for so long I'm trying to recapture that feeling I once got
Also I'm super lazy and have to much work to do, so I cant go out and find the right material and stuff.

any one who remembers me HI (shy wave) (blush)

Those are Truflight2.0's I believe as made by Drewsephina (Glass).
Not sure if they are available anymore though

Then again, if you can get a pair, they do enable you to spin 18.5% better planes.

(i miss you Tobi come back to us dude)

Gayle are you still making custom poi for people???

If so any chance I could request a pair similar to these.
They are made of a non stretchy material quite a hard wearing fabric as I remember I'm sure other people could give a better description than me.

If your interested give me a pm ill try and give you a bit more detail I'm asking you as I loved then ones I saw at Elains party just a bit to stretchy and thin for me.

I miss you to John (jour post made me smile a lot thanks ) in fact I miss everyone Tobi's life is not to great right now.

Edit sorry Gayle just the link for your old sight was down just did a bit of searching round and found http://access.ukserver200.co.uk/~hyperloo/

Do you want me to E-mail the contact info on there with what I want?
