"Today, the average Earth citizen has a Footprint of 2.8 global hectares . But only 2 global hectares exist per person, and other species need resources too. This means today's human demand on nature is more than the biosphere can replace." Footprint I'm at 5.8... ~.~' Must... get... lower....! How about you guys... This is a really interesting quiz to take! ~ Bobo

Apparently, I've got a footprint of 2.2 hectares. Makes me wonder how I fit into my shoes So, according to that, a world population consisting entirely of my clones would need 1.2 planets. I don't even think that's a whole extra planet needed, we could probably get away with just using the moon.

Well my footprint is 6.5 Hectares and I need 3.6 planets
But (there is always a but, it follows me around ;-) )
My countries average is 8.7 hectares
Lucky I live on a farm of just over 1000 hectares so I can actually get some exercise and walk around with my big feet.

Hrmmmm.... bummer. After careful review the quiz seems to have a liberal slant (surprise, surprise).. If you pick all of the crazy 'best' answers (like live with 7 people in a 500 square foot house and no electricity and never eat or drive) you still end up using 1 planet. Since many of us do have electricity and eat meat and such... and we're not dead... it seems that the poll is a bit off. I had hoped that it was basically saying that "by living in excess like I do it makes some poor farmer in Ethiopia have less"... but actually that poor farmer in Ethiopia is taking up too much of a foot print also. So all I really need to do is kill 6 Ethiopian farmers and I can drive my SUV 100 miles a day and I'm still taking up less of a footprint than if I was never born. Actually, I can kill any 6 people and I'm good. Excellent. So by killing others I can feel less guilty about not carpooling. Cool. See and I thought the war in Iraq was a bad thing. I think I may have missed the point though.

COnsidering I live in London I think 1.8 planets is pretty good..when I go to my parents I grow all my own veg and we slaughter our own meat so our footprint is better...
Still appauling though.

I use 1.4 to 1.6 ha depending on how i answer (sometimes I am just in the middle of two options). One World is Enough for me. Yes, my house is eco-designed, i actively shun planes (so I just spent 27 hours coming back from lovely Scotland by boat & train. Plane & train would have been about 4 hours, and cheaper.) and I eat no meat. I found a job nearby, before that my print was more like 3.4ha for traveling to Amsterdam. And no it does not hurt to live like that. NYC: "Um... I'm American. Why the hell would I care?" That's the spirit! Fritter: "some of those quizes can be really biased. " MrFlibble: "its slightly unscientific to say the least " There are versions where you get to fill in every little detail. Like how many cups of milk or slices of cheese a day, electricity use in kWh per year, type of clothes and how long you wear them etc. Then they do a lot of math and produce a 5-digit-precision number of all these things combined in one unit, here being the area needed to sustain you. But why would you do all that. In the end the recalculation of all these things into one unit is just a way to make a quick indication that everyone can understand. I think the value of this 'footprint' is to give you a quick impression of your impact. The questions are very well chosen to give the quickest possible result. You can be ready within two minutes and they show how you are compared to others and what part of your life has the largest impact.

Say what?? I take the subway and ate cookies for lunch. Still came out at 2.7 planets! Well I guess that would balance out my postage-stamp sized apartment. Americans are fatasses. So at least I'm consistent.

that quiz is so crap! how the hell am i supposed to know the population of my town? the size of my house? and the fuel efficiency of my car which i can't even legally drive and therefore ALWAYS share a car?
aww, and its nice to now that the only way to use one planet is to be a vegan who lives in a commune, walks everywhere and doesnt have electricity or running water. obviously THAT was where i was getting it wrong!

5.9 or 3.5 planets.
As I'm in the mining industry my tunnelling activities are making more space for footprints though.

Rouge Dragon said: "that quiz is so crap! how the hell am i supposed to know the population of my town? the size of my house? and the fuel efficiency of my car which i can't even legally drive and therefore ALWAYS share a car?" Oh they are just estimates. Take the closest number for population that looks good. For car efficiency: i did not even get to that question but that's pretty vital to compare car use ain't it? One could state the quiz was crap when it did NOT ask about that.
and
"aww, and its nice to now that the only way to use one planet is to be a vegan who lives in a commune, walks everywhere and doesnt have electricity or running water. obviously THAT was where i was getting it wrong!" I think you are pretty close yet far away from the intended message. Big helpers in having a low footprint are what you eat and how you travel, i think that's the main message. So if you aim for a lower footprint, travel less and eat less meat.
