Umm...i want to make funny remarks about the site but I'm worried he might be a memeber...

Also, on a serious note,

quote:
The qualities and aspects of my show are as follows:

World's largest flaming fire staffs (6 feet long with 2 feet of wicking on both ends)

Twirling speeds up to 90 m.p.h.

Hmm, I'm sure there are staff out there that are loner than six feet for more than 2 foot of wicking on them...I've seen a few stiltwalkers using ones that were at least 8 feet long.

Besdies, 2 foot of wick isn't that much is it?

I've got two staffs at home with four feet on each end, and a guy I met here in Auckland had a six foot (or longer) one with 3 lots of 2 foot. i.e. 6 foot. He was a big person...

Anyway, I digress.

Just for everyone else, I'm putting this thread into the staff section as well...

Personally, I think he is making a sad attempt at compensation! [Eek!] Maybe no one ever told him that faster is not always better and maybe the conversion in his world is that he believes 4 inches is actually 7 inches! [Wink]

I wonder what he thinks about Barnum and Bailey doing his "unique" Rainbow Show. They did a really good job too! [Roll Eyes]

Methinks I am in quite the mood today! [LOL]

Ya gotta admit, the rainbow dancing shots are lovely to look at!
I don't want to share my reaction to reading his site though, without having first making sure it's not a send-up...? [Confused]
i mean, like the 'lord of the blings' websites and such. I dunno, has anyone met this dude? The site state that he's been in ozland - and yes perhaps he's also a HoP'er too.
yes, me am lost. [peace]

great one glass, now ima *really* confoozed. is the ember devils footage of a naturally ocurring penomenon or a really sweet fire performance?! the sound itself does sound like what i would if i were to witness a UFO landing.

as for the 'dude who first introduced firetwirling to ozland', who knows, I don't believe anyone is contesting him for the title.

Perhaps he's a real helpful fellah and could substantiate some of the (admittedly grandiose) claims on his site.
..remembering that we are a supportive online community [Smile] [peace]

I heard about dear Robert for the first time yesterday and right away this morning i got this letter from my friend in Denmark...

---------

i met a guy last night who was doing double staff throws better than you. if
it's any consolation his spinning was poor, his taste in clothes was
terrible and his personality was extremely irritating! i met him in the
sauna, he seemed a bit foward, he made comments like. i'm a fire dancer, i
basically started the whole thing 18 years ago... he also claimed to have
invented the idea of doing throws and switching hands. when i said i knew a
guy in finland who had independently came upon the idea, he first said you
probably went to a workshop he gav ein rotterdam two years ago. when i
discounted that as well, he told me about the hundred monkey theory.

when one monkey on one island starts washing a potatoe all the other hundred
monkeys start washing their potatoes as well. even though there is no way
for them to communicate. so basically you were able to tap into the cosmic
consiousness which unites us all, man and monkey, and steal the idea which
he invented. the idea of throwing one staff from one hand, switching hands
and cathing it with the other hand! that's a helluvalot easier than just
going to the park in barcelona and hiding in the bushes! [which we did ed. note]

his name is robert hart and he's from the USA. he's also travelling to kiev
to try to put together a staff troupe and even tried to get me to join him,
(although he never even saw me perform) i thought perhaps you would like to
be informed of his existence.
----------

strange....

bender, your right this is a very supportive community. [Smile]

I think, until you have the "experience" of meeting him, You wont appreciate the restrain shown in this thread by:
cass, dom, nyc, ninja, bongo, tepooka kids, me and anyone else who was there

He was rude on a personal level to many individuals at the convention, including the sound /light techs for the open stage show.

A man who can make cass [Love] spit fire has a great "talent" indeed.

and there are too many choice quotes:
/quote while teaching a workshop:

"I know a man, who can spin this move, Sooo faaast.
Soooo fast.
This man can spin this move SOOO FAAAST,
he can spin it SOOOO FAAASST,
he can spin it ALMOST as FAST as ME."
/end quote

He is not a HOP kind of person.

DAMN! I´d have loved to have met this guy!

20 years spinning? I wonder how good he is...I met a guy named Steve a couple of nights ago here in Amsterdam who has been spinning 6 (Another Aussie guy funnily enough) who was mindblowing...doing 4 sticks at once and all.

20 years this guy has been spinning...from the sounds of it he´s been talking a lot and practicing a little.

although estimates of his spinning time vary he has been heard to say

after 22(or some stupidly huge number of years) I had a revelation, the staff doesn't always have to stay in your hand

oh i c, drew! [Smile]
seeing as i trust your judgement, and that i haven't met the dude, I'll have to contain my incredulity at this outsized personality.
I guess I am too used to the niceness of firey types, Not just on HoP but in general, so much so it makes my chest burst thinking about it(!)
So it's a pretty big thing for me to hear about a fwirler - *any* fwirler behaving like so to others.

I'm sad that youse guys had to put up with rudeness. The silver lining i guess is that Josh and I have a chance of missing out entirely on this particular experience.

may your fwirlage continue to spout oodles of happiness [Smile]

Every single person I've met since I've started spinning have been the lovliest happiest funniest people around. I hadn't met one spinner I didn't like. It's a shock to see how someone can be part of the community for allegedly 17 years and not pick up at least a little of the happy spirit that seems to go float around like some kind of happy cloud.
At the convention every about every two days we'd sit back and remember that it's not good to take the piss out of anyone too much and that maybe he's just overcompensating for something, then the heart would speak and all the rage would come back.
after reading cass's last robert heart story I've been pushed over the edge the man has no respect for people, crew, other performers, or anything.

*sits back watching all this with a very bemused look on his face*

Unfortunately...I have met several people like this. This guy sounds like their king.

I really think he could be liable for false advertising and fraud if he uses the 'credentials' on his site to get business.

Oh yeah, and his video is showing us the first 150 staff moves?

hmmm, 150 staff moves.... say one minute to explain the first 50...

2 minutes to explain the second, hard 50...

and say, 3 minutes to explain the last (very hard) 50 moves.

um...deee beee dopo, that means 300 minutes..

300 divided by 60 = 5!

5 hours on one video tape! Gee, the quality is going to be really crap if you can only watch it in Long Play...
