i hope i'm not the only one on here.
a thread for anyone one who knows what a backpalm, a sybil cut, or a thumb is!

i'm more of a modern card manipulator, that is to say i'm more into 10packet cuts than i am into split fan productions. this can be seen as a much easier approach to card work (and that's probably true) but it is the way forward.

so.... anyone else?? (worth a shot ey, Ed?)

hey, i didnt know there was anyone else who did cards on here tongue

i do a good deal of manipulation while i do sleight of hand magic. in the way of cuts the most packets i can get is about 6.

my front / back palming still needs practice, but is getting there. split fans are in need of alot of work.

in the way of other manipulation based magic i do a few nice packet vanishes, highly visual card changes and fan productions.

basically anything on the jeff mcbride dvds, i can do at a fairly low level, some of it better though.

my favorites in a manipulation routine usually include the popout move, the auto-magic-aces, a packet vanish, sometimes with a finale being card-on-knife by john bannon.

most of the time i tend to work on sleight based tricks, rather than manipulation, though i am lookng for some new cuts and shuffles.

cheers, pete hug

i got the jeff mcbride series too, but never got much further than the start of the second DVD.
i started with doing card tricks, but i think it's my jugglers mentality that's brought me into doing more flourishes and manipulation kind of stuff.
i may spend the summer trying to learn single productions and split fans.

i'm in the process of putting together a "i'm a big poncey showoff" magic video. i'll have to post it up here when i'm done. i'll end up starting "see who can do the quickest snap change" contests.

yeh, ive been tryin to get mcbrides "perfct production" down for a while, but havent done any work on it in ages.

recently ive been trying to routine a few tricks, so they all logically lead into one nice routine.

i could put a video up, but alot of my stuff uses a certain degree of misdirection. nonetheless, im gona try.

what cards do u use?

I can just about do a backpalm and some flicks that send cards careening wildly across my room, but that's about it.
Unfortunately, I've recently lost most of the time I had to practise in, since I now have a new job (which actually involves having work to do eek), so I don't really see myself learning anything new for a while frown

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I used to do a lot of card magic, more practical stuff, than manipulation....

the most I ever got into cuts was the BRS.

when I was on top of my game I was pretty good at passes....I had a nice little abitious card routine that I used to do.

havent done it in a couple years though.

now this

is card manipulation taken way too far. Mr Tudor is possibly one of the best (and by that i mean most talented with cards, and fastest) card magicians around. unfortunatly he's an arrogant f##kwit.
watch that video a second time and notice how much you never actually saw the first time, just because he can't be arsed to talk over his magic. sorry, i'm ranting now. good video though

I just got my first pack of byciles for my birthday! i know a couple of fancy cuts but have no clue what they're called & constantly feel like my thumb is about 2mm too short, sometimes i find stuff easier with a normal deck but i'm determined to stick with the biycles!

do it, you need to learn with poker sized cards! well, at least that's what i think anyway wink

if you wanna learn to be a big poncey showoff there's a DVD out by MagicMakers called Showoff WIth Cards, most magicians slate it for being badly taught, but it's not really, and it's pretty cheap in comparison. covers everything from simple cuts, fans and changes. to some slighty complex stuff

that tudor vid is some of the most rediculous 'magic' i rekon ive seen. its really good manipulation, but they're just false cuts ans passes, done at lightening speed.

got a new book last night, the trick im workin on now is a poker routine, combined with a colour changing deck routine, combined with triumph tongue its gona take me all night to get this 1 shuffle / strip out / block pushover down.

my spilt fans work with up to 7 softened bees, still need soo much work though.

im liking that popout move, mine still needs a bit of practice.

learnt my first classic ace assembly earlier today, for some reason ive left them out of my repetoire til now.

hehe, im gona have to come up with a routine that doesnt use much misdirection now tongue

cheers, pete hug

i think that's the only 4 ace assembly bit i've ever done really. just because i saw someone do a similar one and thought i could take it up a notch.
i like that pop-out too. and it's so much easier than doing a fancy cut production then having to do a pass.
i can only do passes, good ones, with old decks really. but i can do them under peoples noses then though, woooo. adds an extra notch to the ACR routine

k, had coffee now.

been working on a routine this morning. basically i have 9 spectators each select a card from a shuffled deck, the ninth gets to sign theirs. all the cards are lost one at a time in the deck, then are found one at a time, each in a different manner. the card that was signed is pulled from my wallet which is in my pocket, though im thinking of changing that part to a less used card to pocket routine.

also working on a false shuffle with block push over, for this colour changing deck / triumph / poker routine

cheers, pete hug

ftoa Pete mainly i guess.
came up with a routine today where you throw a card of cards out into an audience, have one person pick a card, throw it to someone else, they pick a card... and so on. 3 people would be enough i think. then have the deck thrown back and without even picking it up you can name all their cards. of course, this is my first venture into stage card magic and therefor this is actually insanely easy to achieve. but may work, i'll post again when i've actually tried it out.

ok, that wasn't really card manipulation was it... er.... been learning split fan productions today, couldn't do it, went back to massive sybil cuts

hi there folks,

Has anybody come across a deck of cards with 2 opposing corners cut off? They were supposedly casino cards but having seen some amazing manipulation, with normal decka of cards, I am very suspiscious of these cards.

mausy, its magic m'dear wink i rekon my version is better tough. it envolves fire and giving a rose to a female member of the audience biggrin

mark, its standard that when a casino sells its cards in a gift shop, they punch a hole in the deck, cut off a corner or alter the physical card in some way. this is to stop card cheats from slipping them in during a game. casino cards are often used as they are good quality and often fairly cheap smile
