Hey.
Righty-ho,my first HOP topic... -nervous-.

Well, I'm a poi beginner.

I started off by accident ubbidea, in a child's workshop (I don't think the poi were suposed to be out, haha), and can do, well, pretty much nothing eek. I can swing 'em in time, I can swing them in an arc, a circle, an an cross them in the air, an make them spin into a smaller circle (just about). I have my own home-made poi, which aren't too bad =]

So I want to know what the best place to start would be, and I figured this'd be the best place to ask.
-feels sheepish- redface

So yeah.
Suggestions?

What also might help is if you wander over to the Meet Others forum and find other spinners near you.

I find other people teach basics better than video tuts. wink

And welcome. biggrin

This handsome chap has a fair few tutorials aimed specifically at taking people from beginner to relatively advanced. He's also very thorough and with a soothing and sexy baritone voice.

but why would you be buggered if it was in the south? do your feet melt if you go below the north-south welsh divide?

Good work on the 3bt weave, that's a fairly big jump for a newb! I'd try learning it in reverse next. It's the exact same move, except your poi are spinning backwards (ie coming towards your head at the top of the circle - eek), and instead of each hand crossing over the top of the other arm on the way down to get to the other side, it passes under the other arm on the way up to get to the other side. Good luck!!

I tend to get my hands confused when I'm reversing anything, and keep thinking my left is my right and vice-versa -blush-

But I did get 2 new sets of poi, 1 baby and 1 big =]
they're about a zillion times better than my homemade ones =]

Not if it's Nathaniel teaching, obviously. I learnt it from his vid myself :b ... and started spinning 4 days ago.

I like this thread, Heulyn ... keep it up I'll stay tuned 'cause I have a feeling that if I started my thread over here it would be just the same :b

Cheers!

Thanks man, got me all a fluster... redface

I try to break down the moves to their simplest components, and the three beat weave, while looking fairly complex is pretty simple, although it does certainly lead onto more difficult things.

The biggest step is getting all your reels solid and comfortable with turning, that'll help your poi twirling like nothing else, and is in my opinion the most important of all the poi movements.
