Ok so I know this is another Strawberry fair thread, but there is a point to this one being here this early.

For those of you who don't know what it is, Strawberry Fair is Europe's biggest FREE festival. That's right, there are bands, stages, performers, the lot there, and do you have to pay to get in? Not one cent! all we ask is that you help to keep the site clear of rubbish.

Being a totally free event in a capitalist country is pretty difficult to arrange, and relies heavily on people participating, organising and generally giving up their time for the good of the fair.

For 2008, We are trying to organise a juggling/spinning area, with potentially two areas for workshops.

We need several things at SF:

stewards

people willing to teach youngesters

people who want to participate in workshops

people to help teach other people who to make poi/staffs/etc

A little info from the BBC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cambridgeshire/content/articles/2008/05/13/strawberry_fair_2008_feature.shtml

Additional info: fire spinning is not permitted at this particular event: If you feel the need to burn, there are plenty of other parks you can sneak off to: If you try to do it in the middle of the fair police/stewards will stop you!

Unfortunately the whole fireshow idea has fallen through *sigh*

Hm.. Definitely would like to help if I can- have to figure out nearer the time if it's possible or not.

I could maybe help workshops, or stewarding.

Please prod me in a while in case I forget (life's going to be pretty busy for a bit biggrin )

could always add it to your 'favorite threads' smile (button at the bottom of the page on the left)

Don't worry, if you make an offer, I'll probably hunt you down nearer the time (in a friendly way, of course!)

Good to see some interest here! biggrin

Can you just clarify about the fire spinning public liability insurance please? Did you mean don't bother to offer to do fire performance if you don't have PLI?

Sorry - have an Essex girl moment pehaps!

Thought i should mention that i have insurance, and have performed a bit this year. I don't claim to be the best spinner; but my focus is on dance, style and artistic presentation. People know me @ Strawberry and like what i do- come on Guy giz a go! XXX

smile Don't worry, at the moment I'm just trying to drum up some interest: details on who/what/why/when will come later (like sometime after Xmas: Jan/Feb maybe) when I've got a bit more info.

Also if we have lots of individual performers, we might look at trying to coordinate you into a group

watch this space! biggrin

I'll be there.
Put me down for teaching poi basics to youngsters and could possibly be persuaded to help instruct on the methods of how to make a monkeyfist knot (should have i decent method nailed by then wink )
Think I've figured out an easier (if slightly longer) was of getting from Manchester to Cambridge without going via MK or London. That was a nightmare last time.

This week the strawberry Fair committee is proud to announce we have organised not one but TWO excellent benefit gigs for your listening and dancing pleasure.

On wednesday 20th at the portland arms from 8pm - 12pm the Strawberry Fair Green Area present for the bargain price of £5.00

Tarantism, TK & Rose and DJ Scott Free

and on Friday 22nd at the cellar bar from 8pm - 2am the Strawberry Fair East Stage presents "INFECTED STRAWBERRY" a night of mental, twist your own head off, thumping psytrance with DJ's Luvlea, Psykinetic and DJ Sutekh (Antiworld Resident) doing a live PA.

Both gigs will be an excellent night of entertainment and an good opportunity for people to pop along, support the fair financially and if you're up for it sign up as a helper / steward.

Remember Strawberry Fair is a sponsor free, free to attend, volunteer powered event and we need all the help we can get (and that means you!!)
