Best band in the world couldn't say...
but I reckon the best song in the world would have to be Don't Fear the Reaper, by Blue Oyster Cult.

I feel that it is litterelly impossible for me to label the best in anything and music is the ultimate in impossibility for me

for starters the best for what reason? I may adore a song lyrically *such as into my arms by Nick Cave or the Ghost Song by the Doors* however musical appreciatively it would be something completely different *jazz/latin etc*

I only really have 1 thing to say...although it is not my favourite song in the world or the best in my opinion...i STRONGLY recomend that EVERYONE on this site download or buy a song called~

Race With The Devil On A Spanish Highway
by
Al Dimeola

It will blow your mind if you have respect for musicians...my god...seriously do it...its old school fusion...mmmmmmmmmmm...drums bass guitar and keys...DO IT...trust me you wont be dissappointed

If life was a ball of fire...i would be the poi sustaining it

At the moment, the best band in the world to me is VNV Nation, but one of the best songs in the world is Gorecki by Lamb.

Actually my dear crazy french person, it refers to that very song, cept it was by manu chao solo after he broke away from mano negra!
just thought I'd be pedantic and silly bout it.
Such a tune though!

cheers coleman, i really need it. Some twit has been studying the wrong notes for the last two days and only has until monday to cram!
think "runaway" by snow would be a better tune!

Guess I'm a bit different than most here. Here is my current favorite stuff:

Dead Can Dance (and Lisa Gerrard's solo stuff ie... Gladiator soundtrack)
Fields of the Nephilim (gotta love songs with lyrics in ancient Summarian)
The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets (The only all H. P. Lovecraft inspired band)
Velvet Hammer (Austin Texas based Pagan band – now called Dreamtrybe)
Marillion (with Fish as the singer/songwriter, not the Hogarth cr@p)

And my current #1 favorite: Elvendrums. These guys (and gals) started out playing at Ren Faires. They are a drumming group who’s lyrics are about Faerie/Elven Magic and Irish history concerning the Tuatha de Dannon. They even have a couple of songs where they sing in Tolkien’s Quenya Elven dialect (what Liv Tyler was speaking in the LOTR movies).

When I'm in a bad mood: Diamanda Galas.

I ADORE 'Almost Happy' by K's Choice, that whole album, in fact.

Olympian, by Gene, ranks pretty highly in my estimation. Really touches me.
