OK, pesky winter is gone and so is my excuse for not picking up poi in months. So now it's time to dust off my box of poi moves and go out and get some more. I figure if I publicly write down my goals for the next two months, I might have a better chance of actually getting them met.

My poi goals for the summer are:

Become a Freehanding Newbie

Gumbys/Catchcombos with Fire

Learn Flowers and How to Turn Them

Learn Split Time Glowstick Wraps

Freehanding with Fire

BTB fountain or a Waistwrap

I'll be happy to get 4/6 of them.

And I say this all the time and fail, but I want to get some logic and presentation to my spins. They need a beginning, middle and and end. Maybe uberpoi will save me. frown

... And don't get killed by a fire plate or hoop. But that's not poi and more of a life goal. wink

What are your poi goals for this summer?

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

anything else I can possibly learn

On top of all that I've got to learn uni and juggling. My goal is to learn to juggle clubs while idling. I doubt I'll get it, but I'll try like hell.

I love poi.

I think I'll pick up staff and doubles this summer.

No new poi moves, just cleaning up what I have so far. My isolations and planes still need a good bit of refining.

Well, I dont really have any speciffic moves Im striving for right now. I kinda just let the moves find me these days. I suppose Ill mainly be working towards refining overall control, learning new ways to move and further develop my style, and perhaps do a bit of routining/choreo with Denise and solo. This summer is lined up to be pretty awesome really. Lots of opportunity to share and learn on the horizon. I dont like to limit myself with setting goals.

Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.
We'll blaze a new trail,
and torch the rough patches.

I was thiking about this the other day! I'd like to nail decent turning flower planes and get waist wraps/extended waist wrap planes nice too. I'm not very bendy so I'd like to work on that to generally help everything else along. We have a ballet school near our house, I might pop along and see if they'll help for little money.

Oh and apart from poi, I'll be working on being a Dad from the beginning of September, I think that might take quite a lot of time away from my spinning but I don't mind ubblove

Im goona build my self a set of doubles and see what I can do.

For poi, im hopeing on getting btb weave, and toucheing up on my very bad buzzsaw isolation smile learning to isolate the weave would be fun too, tho I doubt i'll be able to do that smile

Improve all my BTB waist wraps - they're getting there, but there's a way to go.

Flowers - get that bloody antispin flower!

Tangles - moving them all over the place and over and under and so on.

cleaning up reverse antispin flowers (poi reverse, arms forwards)

tightening up isolated buzzsaw & weave

cleaning up split-direction buzzsaw flowers & same direction buzzsaw fountains

long-arm circle spinning thing (don't know the name of this move--arms are 180 apart, you're spinning your body & not the poi)

it's all about refining this summer -- i've made a conscious decision not to learn new moves till after Burning Man.

taken out of context i must seem so strange

hmmm... i've been refining for a while, it's all about mixing up some new ideas over the summer like....

>more anti-spin everywhere, thinking about how to use it effectively and even get it into weaves an stuff....
>more inverted things. need to really sort out my barrel rolls and get inverted horizontal stuff...
>oli-ing... or at least tighter hyperloops in different places...
>more ideas for turning in and out of patterns cleanly including the use of big arm stuff...
>tighter flowing contact staff with use of fishtails to link moves...
>4 clubs. 5 ball tricks. 6 balls?? wink

should keep me busy! biggrin weavesmiley

If that were true then there would be no point in this thread... wouldn't it have been better, perhaps, to say that there is but one move, and we're all trying to learn it.. wink weavesmiley

...but, back on topic bounce ...

My goals are:
1) smooth out this waistwrap (that I just learned thanks to FNF and Orbit's wonderful vids, along with the excellent advice from all of you that I found by using the *search* function beerchug )
2) Get ANY new freaking btb move (weave, ww, bfww, anything will do really), these elude me like a leprechaun I tell ya... I'm starting to think they're a myth pulled off in the editing process. They don't really exist, do they? Come on, you can tell me.. I won't tell another soul, honest! ubbangel ubbloco
3) Isolations. A better understanding of them would be nice. I've finally felt them, now I just need to own them.
4) get my dance moves more ingrained in my muscle memory so that the poi can flow around the dance, instead of it looking like I'm *trying* to dance inside the poi.
5) NETWORK! I am soo jealous of you who have regular gatherings and such.. I wanna play with others too! /whine.

I just want to work on making what i can do look good which means

-dancing more
-managing to smile rather than looking scared or in deep concentration when i spin!
