Think of the image you want to portray while on stage...is it cutsy, is it serious, is it whimsical, etc. and maybe go from there?

My stage name is my real first name. It just fits my image and who I am when performing. Using a stage name to me would just seem very fake and that would come across in my spinning. That being said, I know some people who perform under their HOP name. I know some people that use the same name for belly dancing and fire spinning. Their name has sort of become an extension of who they are and their performing style.

So, what sort of style are you using (assuming this is a spinning name and not a play/actor type thing)? Do you want to be seen as having some sort of attitude? Do you want to be fairy-like? I'd say figure that out first, and then look for names with those characteristics.

Well "Socks" isn't my real name, but I use it. It's the best middle ground of a cute name, and somthing you'd probably call a dog. But for me it's also the level of 'costume' I get into. It's persona and performance, and it's much more entertaining than my "real name", which I hate.

And how'd I get it? I didn't name myself, I'll just leave it at that.

I'm weird. Just work through that and we'll all be fine.

I always go by nicknames, and I have many. Every person I meet seems to give me a new one, but as for stage names I would use the name I use here.

Pele is my stage name. Been using it the better part of a decade and now more people globally know me as it than my real name.
As such, make sure it is something you like, whenever you do use it...and check to make sure that it is not already in use by doing a google for it.

Mine was given as a nickname based on my temper and a Volcano where my friend grew up...not at all on the goddess nor the soccer player. It just ended up being coincidental the whole fire and goddess thing.

Before that I switched characters alot and came up with names...let's see I have played...

Bernadette aka Birdie... she was very flighty and upbeat. She was a Ren. Faire street character. 2 years.

Mary Margaret Brahms aka Maggie the Matchgirl. Dickens festival lunatic. I played her for 5 years.

Lillian Moira Marie Catherine Elizabeth Rhiannon McShae...you can call her Lilly. She was a doxy for my stage shows at Ren., not pure like her name would hint at.

There have been others, but each has a story to the name and each has a deeper meaning for me than just a name, as each..including Pele, is a fully developed character who is a bit different than me. Though I have to admit, over the years the line between me and "Pele" has become quite blurry.

And why did I take a stage name for fire/circus stuff? Because I had a couple stalker incedents which were frightful, so the real name thing has never sat well with me personally.

Oooh, I've thought about this a bit for myself...I do magic and I looked for a stage name a bunch last year...Chet Nebod was one I thoght of but dosen't fit anymore...the last name was from this Nac Mac Feegle as it happens, some of you will know who I'm talking about, and I don't really remember the rest from when i was thinking up magician ones. Recently I've been thinking of using Dorian or Dorian Clockwork (Clockwork's a nicname I have at school cos I wear a tophat that looks like Alex's from A Clockwork orange) or some other last name. Penguin of Mass Destruction I also thought about, and I'm thinking that last one would make a better name for a troupe than an individual performer. The advice about fitting your name to your theme is either really quite good or corny, and I suspect could be either depending on how it gets handled. #Goes off to eventually think through the idea of fitting his stageneme to whatever his act's like#

ok sorry its taken me ages to actually post.

i have never really thought about using Gothfrogette or frogette. the name was given to me by a really good friend after an internet incident with my ex.

Sprite : hug you have made some very good points that i have not thought about before. i hate my real name so that really isn't an option and i think i would perform much better if i had an alter ego. As for my style i don't know if i have one, i just kinda spin and go with the flow.

Pele : WOW thats quite a few names and i was wandering about how the name Pele came about too. hug most people i have spoken to don't use their real names for similar reasons to you but i don't think many have actually been stalked. that must of been really scary hug hug hug i get my psycho ex hunting round the net doing the same thing (as i said before this why i have changed my online name a few times...no more though he doesn't scare me and as far as i am concerned he has far too much time on his sad little hands. *hmmmmm i wonder if he's reading this too and yes he does come on Hop umm)

anyway back on topic....

Seb : i like clockwork

FRD : hug we shall have to sit down and have a weeee think i am sure i could come up with some names once we get talking properly at Fal. or you could just use Cheese. i have recently watched an episode of fosters home for imaginary friends and fell in love with cheese. its sooo funny. the episode is called Mac Daddy. go find and if you find a pic of cheese can i have it.:D infact you kinda remind me of Mac

and i am still undecided. *Sigh. This sucks.

I was born with a stage name. I've even thought about just dropping my other names and becoming just "Magnus". But then i'd never be able to travel round Scandinavia without causing major confusion. smile

Magnus or Mags the Jedi generally do for me. When we perform we're often fairly nameless and part of a larger ensemble, so it hasn't really come up yet.

"That-idiot-with-the-fire" is quite a common name for me in Falmouth...

Although our troupe is FireFlyz
and my production company is Pixie Productions.

Why not use GothFrogette? its not likely to pull many hits on Google other that stuff you post....

I suppose thats another consideration. Do you want people to do a search on you as a performer and find your social chats on HOP?

mine is Frederick the Reckless, due to the fact that i do so many different fire acts, to include breathing and eating, as well as transfers. the firewhip is the most dangerous PROP (the most dangerous ACT hands down is fire breathing... well known) and i use that as well. add to that all the other props i use, and the moves i use (i.e. breathing fire through a cartwheel on one hand) and it's not hard to see why i chose the name.

apply, and i wll let you in... it's in files/sneak previews/wheeloffire.gif lemme know what you think!
