Some people say it's bad and it causes arthritis, others say it's just like little air bubbles and that it's harmless.

What do you think?

Good or bad?

Some people get offended when people do it.

It's one of those things that people get yukkied out by. I personally get yukkied out by the sound of people scratching an itch on their skin.

Anyone have any bad habits that don't necessarily offend people?

or

Do you get offended by any little habits people have? Has anyone ever been offended by some little habit you've done?

Yes! It's true! I've done Yoga for years with a very, very wise indian instructor. He used to crack my back for me, every time it went he'd just go 'Ah, good, release of tension'. When I asked him about it he said that if you apply firm pressure (NOT trying to force them) the joints only crack if they need to, it releases pressure in the joints and it does feel really, really good. I click all over in Yoga but i've never had painful joints. smile

I've never really needed to crack anything... that happens when I stretch. I like stretching.

A hole in the chest? Haha, I knew people with this. It freaked me out the first time I went to push them and my hand went half-way into their chest... It's a condition. Concave chest or something. I've actually seen people eat cereal out of this cavity while laying on a couch.

Disturbing.

I also walk around barefoot, some people seem to think that's strange.

I worked with a guy that pick his nose in public, finger and thumb, really root around and pull out all kinds of crap. That was gross, and he'd do it in lunch IN FRONT OF PEOPLE EATING!

Gah!

And people that eat with their mouth open and make that "lukp lukp lukp" noise, that really grinds my goat.

But then I'm possitive that I do things that really bother poeple.

Give me a lever long enough and a place to stand and I can beat the world into submission.

walking around in bare feet is not so odd in Texas. In south africa it seems to be expected.

Firepoise, a lot of back and neck pain is also caused by stress - both emotional and physical. While stretching may help some relieve that pain, it doesn't work for everyone. The best solution would be to remove what is causing the undue stress.

I've been cracking my knuckles for about 13 years. I've never seen any harm... I knew it probably damaged joints, etc but didn't care. It's so freaking hard to stop!! Anyway. A couple months ago I was trying to crack my right pinky and ever since then I've had pain in it. I finally went to the doctor today and he splinted my finger. Turns out I have a ganglia cyst:

Ganglion Cyst aka Bible Bump
Affects: Wrist / Hand
Type: Connective tissue
Symptoms: Bump or concentrated swelling resulting from synovial fluid leaking from an injured tendon into, the surrounding soft-tissues which eventually encapsulates the fluid and becomes a cyst.
This type of injury is ****usually caused by repetitive stress or direct trauma to the affected area.****

===
So, there you have it-- cracking your knuckles does damage your joints. So... I'm going to try to stop but it's very hard. I don't know if I'll succeed...but hopefully by telling the rest of you this, you will be forewarned.
