have to agree with +) on this one, just make em. They're really easy. Do you want fire ones or regular ones? I made my practise ones out of some 12mm abseil rope I had lying around, just tied monkeyfist knots in either end of the 5m length I had. OK they're a little long about 7' but the I'm a big lad so it works just corkscrew moves can be a little painful but other than that they ok. I don't have a set of fire ones yet, but I will at some point.

Hello Darkpoet, you replied to my other meteor post, and Im pleased to reply to yours.

I've been brainstorming firemeteors for a while. I have rope meteors for practice, but I need fire ones. I was trying aircraft cable, but it seems not flexi enuf for poi-style moves...so I am thinking of buying 1 inch wide kevlar rope, around 5 or 6 ft in length, then folding the last 2 inches of each end over and punching a grommet thru that, then attaching a quicklink and firehead, and maybe a swivel in between there too.....

I am thinking of reinforcing it by running a length of 1/4 inch or less cable for a little stiffness if it needs it, and duct taping the whole thing together. that way you can still use rope and not have it melt or burn, cause its made of kevlar...only problem it is $$$ though.

an inch wide are u insane???? i use something more like shoe string thickness lol
bah
i dunno about fire personally i say get a poi set from here and tie the loops together it gets the results quite well
ive only done fire once and it was a rush
my suggestion is to not do fire untill ur good enough that you NEVER MESS UP
fire is the pinnacle of teh art form
try using a much smaller cable in diameter
and grommit that to about 1 foot of aircraft cable on eaceh side so u have rope then cable
might work i dunno.......
just us a much smaller diameter main cable
very fine chain links could work as well w\ quick links then string between the quicklinks so that it has 3 parts
when u have the quick links you can also take off the string with ease and start doin poi....

I'd advise thicker rope than shoelaces, about index finger width is good. Not too thick or the meteor goes too slow.

construction:
1. Try using 2 large solid rubber balls, the bouncy type. ( found in the pet store, for dogs). Indestructable.
2.Get two eye-hooks and screw one down through each rubber ball. (the hook with the circular bit instead of the hook shape) Get large ones.
3. Go to the Chandelery. ( The place you get equipment for sailing )
They have a huge selection of greeaaat rope. Take your pick.
4. Go home and tie the two rubber balls to your rope.
I'm 5'11" and I use a 2m length of rope.
Whatever suits you really.
One meteor, 5 minutes.

I've been working with what are officially called 'stage balls': Hollow rubber balls that are made of thick flexible rubber.

1. cut a slit in the side of it and drill a hole in the other side the same thickness of the rope. You can ask the thickness of the rope at the chandelery and your drill bit should have the thickness written on the side.
2. pull the rope through the hole, then pull it through the slit.
3. Tie a knot in the rope, a simple one and glue it with super glue.
4. when the knot has dried pull the rope back through the slit and glue the slit up.
5. Do the same to the other side.

I'm going straight to hell.
Better practice my fire show.

I've made a few sets of fire meteors using chain.
They work a lot better if you make a handle for the middle as otherwise the chain gets really slippery from the paraffin.
At first I used dusters wrapped round the center of the chain and secured with string, now I use chamois leather as it lasts longer.

I've just made my first toy - a 7ft meteor! I used this rope I got from Focus DIY (but Wickes or Homebase probably sell it too) - it's 1/8th of an inch thick with a soft core and a really tightly wound outer wrap. It's as flexible as you want it, but it's also ever so slightly stiff (I think it's actually called 'wire rope' even though it's 100% nylon). For weights I've used tennis balls which I've pierced all the way through and attached with hangman's knots. After speaking to [Nx?} I may fill them with sand or stuff a golf ball inside for a bit more weight.
Now all I need to do is learn how to use the thing!

I just started trying to play with meteors.

I went to a fabric store and picked up the biggest double ended hanging decorative tassle thing they had. Then I just undid the knot they put and straightened out the hanging loop into a plain rope. It's real pretty, all red and gold. I'll post pics once I figure out where I put my camera.

E pluribus unum, baby.

I just use ballchain with aleather sheath around the middle foot or so so it don't hurt my poor ickle hands And the heads are interchangeable for practice or fire, which is nice, I can even stick my double fire poi heads on the end (i've got such an interesting scar on my arm form that particular experiment doh)
