OK, Dad's bought this flashy new Digital camera and I was fiddling around with it trying to gert some nice poi pics but they all come out to sharp, i.e. no fire trails. It has a shutter speed "emulator" (obviously, it doesn't actually have a shutter) but even on it's slowest setting I getno joy...I just wondered if anyone has had similair problems or if anyone can give advice on fire photos with digital cameras. It does videos as well but with the same problem.------------------https://welcome.to/thehugbubble I have only one burning desire....let me stand next to your fire

Durbs--Are you leaving the flash on? That'll freeze the flame and leave you with a disappointing image. You need at least a 1/4-sec exposure to get a decent fire-trail. Assuming you are twirling at night, just disable the flash, set the camera on a tripod, and set it to auto-exposure. You might want to play around with the ASA settings--I prefer 400, but if you want long, crazy fire trails, set it to 100.

Ah yes, Frenzie. Those pix were probably taken in slow-sync flash mode. Not all digicams offer that, and it really only works when you are reasonably close to the subject (ie, within the flash's range). But you can get some nice results with it.

I use a simple Kodak digital camera, only cost a couple of hundred quid. All I have to do is turn the flash off and the exposure time is automatically elongated. The length of the trails is determined by the brightness of the flame and surrounding light.Domhttps://www.alternativa.co.uk/poi/

well I have a HP 400 digi camera and I had some very cool fire trails from a show... don`t know how I got them... if Malcolm ever updates the pics page u can see them. Or if we get our website up and running. I think I moved the camera a bit as well while I was taking the pictures.

i may be new to spinning, but i know a bit on photography. (wow...something here i'm not [completely] lost on! wink )you say the thing has a shutter emulator? how far down does it go? you're wanting, as stated before, at least .25 sec...if there's an ISO setting or emulator, upping that might also help. last thing to check is if you're able to make the thing work on "manual" mode instead of "automatic". this'll let you set the controls without getting into an argument with the AI in the camera. smilehope this helps some....------------------"life begins between the night and the light."

I have exactly the same problem, but with my sony mavica... its old and not one of the fancy ones (it doesnt even have a zoom on it), but no matter what I do I cant make it do the trail thing with fire... I tried reducing the "shutter speed" and also disabling the flash, but it didnt make any difference; super sharp pics of the fire, and nothing else...I have a little video done on a better mavica (ridiculous thing with a full zoom lense etc. etc., looks like a SLR) and that shows some pretty good trails. Only thing is I wanted to do some with my camera... Any ideas?...
