My pod poi seems to be having kinetic awareness problems. It does not go through the mode unless I am spinning very hard. Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it?

From what I've heard, the issue is caused by some spring-loaded sensor or accelerometer chip being calibrated wrong, or coming off the calibration. Whatever the cause, you should email Flowtoys support with your issue. They provide a lifetime warranty for all their products, and my understanding is that they probably will ask you to send it back to them for repairing. At worst, you'll be able to get a replacement for half the cost of a pod.
