Ever since I started juggling, and then spinning poi (and most recently staff/contact staff), I've always thought of fire as.... no offense.... gimmicky.

The way I always saw it was a way for buskers to make an extra buck because what's better than watching someone juggle to an audience member? Watching them "risk life and limb" juggling torches. Well, I don't busk, so, that's beside the point.

Point is, after almost 4 years of juggling, and maybe about half that spinning poi, I've finally made the jump to fire. The other night some friends let me borrow a pair of fire poi, and then shortly after, some torches. Now that I've lost my fire virginity, I want more. ^_^

Also, after playing with fire, I realize some moves (such as waist wraps) I really want to get a lot more solid before doing them with fire. hehe

Now I just need to find the right pair of fire poi for myself. Theirs were waaaaay too light for me.

Anyhow, that is all. It was fun, and I can't wait to do it again. Cheers poi people.

Congrats on the burning! I don't look at fire as a gimmick to hook anaudience, though it can certainly be that. I see it as a way to combine two of my hobbies: Poi and pyromania. Plus once you get past the "ooh, danger" factor it has a visual appeal that neat balls can't really match. It's still not my favorite way to spin Poi, but it's close.

I find spinning with fire to be a headrush. The sound, heat and the light just put me in the zone. I feel like time bends when I am spinning with fire
