I've been doing some reseach into the history of poi. And can now reveal who actually invented poi:

Jay Gilligan

Non-Https Image Link

Commonly known as the inventor of poi, Gilligan is quick to point out that he did not in fact actually think to swing them. "Its much more interesting, what the kids are doing these days with poi, than what I used to do. For me it was all about seeing how still I could keep them, especially while jogging," Gilligan said. When asked if he has any other inventions up his sleeve, Gilligan tells us that he thinks two innovative ideas in his lifetime may very well be his limit. Two inventions? "Yeah, if you look at these pictures of early poi prototypes, you can see there is just one string held in the right hand. The idea to use my left hand too, and therefore neccessitate another poi (and therefore another invention), came much much later."

which has amazing juggling clips ... get downloading... check out jay on the street in 3b different ways.
If you don't know new skool club juggling this will make you

I posted this before, but I hid in in the nerdy....I mean technical section. so it didn't really get the attention it deserves.

Umm. and for all the people who are going to the EJC, a special treat you'll have an opportunity to thank him in person and if you want, like me, you can ask him to autograph your poi.

Glass

P.S. It's a JOKE dudes, alright, so no going getting miffed, the peapot crowd are cool, and they make groovy (and in places very funny) juggling videos, and take the piss out of everyone... especially american jugglers.

if ya want the newskool club shee-at jon you have to not look at the clips taken from '3b different ways' (the b stands for 'balls' ) and look at some of the stuff under 'radical club news' or 'cooking fat' instead (they used radical fish clubs in one and fatheads in the other - there's a prize if you can guess which is which without looking).

tempest, unless you have that program that saves streaming vids, you'll just have to order their videos i'm afraid. i'm waiting for them to produce dvd's myself...

jay was at glasto, mostly doing crazy 6 ball juggling and looking angry.
synchronised 6 ball drops. genius

i saw a different set
he randomly did an extra 15 minute show on saturday in the big top while bill bailey was on in the cabaret.
he started with 3 ball, moved onto 4, 5 then 6.
did some ridiculous 3 club stuff then a tiny bit with 7 rings.

there was still much heckling from myself and crazy adam (not dsads) which mainly consisted of us shouting 'do the elbow thing'.
he did and we cheered.

okay, so i worked it out

view the video you want using peapot's embedded windows media player thingy
right click on the actual square of video and select 'Properties'
select and copy (using the left and right mouse buttons in the right order) the line of text after 'Location' which should look something like this: https://www.peapot.net/tocmenu/Pages/Peapot-Films/RCN_spe1.asx

now open windows media player (wmp) in the normal fashion and select 'File, Open URL...' from the menus
paste the 'Location' line into the dialogue box and click 'OK'
the video should now play in your normal wmp
you can now select 'File, Save Media As...' from the menus and save it anywhere you like

not the same as having them on dvd but i don't feel as bad downloading them until they sort out all their video on discs.

Hey, where do I get those special sun glasses that allow me to look directly at Jay Gilligan without hurting my eyes?

I'll be at EJC and want to make sure I have a pair before I get there...

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

Yes, I met Jay.
Yes, I told him about Gilligans.
Yes, I demonstrated.
Yes, he signed one of my poi (and it hasn't done a circle since).
No, I didn't have a camera to get a photo of him doing a Gilligan.
