I recently made my fire snakes which are just a tad on the ridiculous side
They are insanely heavy but I still am in love with them. And they GUZZLE fuel.

I used 1/2" x 1/8" Kevlar flat wick. And I used the corkscrew stitch. I sugget you make sure you can handle the weight first or at least not make them as big as I did I'm lucky I can spin them and I learned from this vid I need to spin them faster.

don't worry about weight, i've used 3pound firepoi before and quite like them, you need to adapt your footwork and balance but much fun

Mason, that simply means you haven't yet played with an unreasonable amount of fire.
Fire snakes certainly fit into the categories that can egt up there, but i agree with LiquidTrance, practice for a while, and you learn to adjust for the weight.
It's the heat and fuel spray that takes longer to adjust for...
