You could watch a video, then go to a bigger room. Might lead to lots of back and forth though.

If you go this route, I suggest looking at playpoi's youtube channel.

I personally suggest The Scales of Poi: https://www.homeofpoi.com/shop/productDetails/DVD-The-Scales-of-Poi

Scales of Poi won't teach you a lot of tricks, but it will give you really good fundamentals. I personally like the pairing of Scales of Poi with Encyclopoidia Vol. 2 because the latter is a little more trick oriented, but also with a strong eye towards the basic elements of its tricks.

If you want a good trick library, then the first Encyclopoidia has a goodly chunk of the stuff covered in the lessons on this site on one DVD.

There are a number of people doing tech-oriented stuff.

Drex is one (TaoAvatar20), e6 is another (e6of1 I think). Drex does one a week, some of it fairly complex, some not. I would suggest you look at what he covers and see. A lot of his material is not really aimed at beginners.

A very good option is Playpoi, but they are not updating regularly any more.

PoiBoi also has a good tech blog. And I honestly wouldn't suggest going too far without knowing what Scales of Poi teaches you, you'll learn great control and freedom of movement which is what you need for good flow, overall look, and helps learn everything else to the point where I consider it invaluable smile Although I just saw it all online in parts, I don't have the actual dvd.

The only luck is bad luck.
