Iron poi? It's not gladiator practice laugh3
Get something softer. I wouldn't wear sunglasses for protection, I'd be afraid they would break and make things worse.

my iron poi means the main body is a iron horse bell, and i made a wool cover on it, but still heavy, about 100g the poi head. i use this heavy one cos i think it's easier to get hands acustomed to the spinning.

100g isn't that heavy all things considered, I use about 115g poi usually... I think perhaps you should find something that weighs the same but is safer.

*shrug*

You're lucky it wasn't your eye or worse....
P.S. Wear a cup.... lol

ok, i think i should use this iron poi to practise my familiar tricks, and use lighter poi to learn new tricks smile

Hi momhappysan.

A charging rhino with a woolly knitted hat is still going to dent your jeep door, no matter how the hat was knitted!

It's not really the weight of the poi that appears to be the issue, it's the unforgiving nature of metal poi heads, even covered with wool...

Making poi, even the very simple sock poi, more forgiving is to put loose weights in them, such as rice, sand or flour. They may still give you a blood lip, but that is because of the hard white teeth behind the lips, not the poi itself...

In my opinion...

Yes, go with the suggestion from Charles. Solid iron balls as poi sounds like a recipe for a disaster.

'We're all mad here. I'm mad, you're mad." [said the Cat.]
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "Or you wouldn't have come here."

That sounds deadly, like literally signing your own death warrant. Not even I feel safe spinning iron poi and I spin like this https://www.youtube.com/user/Rammstein2720?feature=mhum
And you're just a beginner. I seriously don't want to find out that you got badly injured from your poi. Those bastards could give you a concussion.

The only luck is bad luck.

Shut up before I stall my poi up your ass grin
