it might be cool to have spin off competitions anyone else think so?

I prefer my flow lights to fire but doesn't matter to much. Also will accept challenge from anyone. My only handicap is that camera aren't always available but I have my ways.

Now let's see...

Rank: Intermediate-Advanced I think
Class: Tech-ish, more dancy-flowy than most I've witnessed
As said above I challenge anyone who dares to knock over my smoothie!

Will also take challenges in double staff!
Rank: No clue, entertaining maybe? I only know how to spin them not how to compare myself tongue2
Class: Not very techy at all I don't think. Rely move on dancy type movement things and intergalactic radiation.
Will challange anyone who dares to knowck over my (lets make it different) staff-smoothie?

The only luck is bad luck.

Shut up before I stall my poi up your ass grin

I almost wanna challenge you to double staff SoD. I have only seen it in person once or twice and some vids online. So all my knowledge is from random videos and integrating poi into the staffs. Also what I use is extremely ghetto. A couple pieces of bamboo that are a little to short and not weighted lol.

I'll still need to record new footage this weekend or next, so no rush. Also I'd like to propose a primary guideline: the videos are to be unedited, continuous spinning sessions. Changing the sound is fine, and you can rehearse or re-record as much as you want, but cutting together footage is out. This is to keep the competition from going to the people with the good editors. Sound fair? I'm still in either way.

My lack of current editing ability makes it sound more than fair and looks like we're both on the same time frame so awesome! My only other 2 questions for this match are is there a length(time) requirement and are there disqualifying factors (i.e. throws, alternate types of poi like snakes and such)?

I hope this is a classic monkey fist to monkey fist match, or know up front it's not! grin

My poi are monkey fists, but they are configured for throwing and I usually do simple throws and hand swaps. For the purposes of our match we can rule out throws if you have a strong preference (which might be a challenge in itself since NEB throws are a core part of my style at this point). And I think time should be 5 minutes or so. A white gas burn wouldn't last much longer. 5-7 minutes maybe?

I'd like to rule out throws since I've never done nor do I have the equipment to learn thus yet, any other tricks or dancing and such I think is cool along with a 5 minute footage guideline roughly. If that sounds good I guess we can start churning out the moves yeah? smile

Actually just the chain on your gear would be heavy enough to keep the cord straight during tosses, and as long as you can keep a grip on the chain, you can catch them. I encourage giving them a try some time. There are some pretty easy ones.

Most dance choreography is no longer than 3 minutes in length which makes sense with how long the majority of songs/compositions are. I'll arrange my music mix to ensure it's roughly 5 minutes in length than bust a move freestyle...

I don't like to choreograph tongue2 I'll do a rough style for the song, some genral points I want to hit with things and then freestyle inbetween.

LOL I don't know anyone IRL who even does throws and I'm pretty green in fire land compared to them, but I'm going to hang in there and try not to be as easy of a kill to the tech spinner regardless...

ok here are some ideas i came up with, that we might want to try down the road.
-1 min battles focusing on one skill or aspect (i.e. hybrids, throws, isos, flowers, movement, contact, ability to create elaborate sock puppet poi shadow shows, ect.)
-have competitors use the same background song. this way we could see how each person reacts and moves to the same music, and eliminates the question of how long a video should be.
-mixed medium battles. in the same battle you might have each person preform 1 min sock poi, 1 min fire poi, 1 min flowlights, and/or 1 min double staff.

oh and expect this duel between Aston and I to end in an epic battle.

smile

@ Rives
I think the idea of same song is brilliant. However I'm not so sure about the 1 min specific challenge, unless its what the competitors want to do. Or multiple aspects per challenge.

Also the gear on the vid of course depends on what each spinner has access to. I happen to have all of those that you mentioned, but that's after a year and a half. Kinda like the idea of a certain trick then in that, its up to the competitors.

Great ideas though. I think these comps on here are gunna get real crazy. I look forward to it all.
