Females:

Poi to gain strength in mind, body, and spirit. Poi for meditation in escaping dharmas or bringing them to light. Females have creative cycles, and dancing with poi allows us to express them and gain stability, get our breathe back, and calm our nerves!

Poi also goes extremely well with yoga! Females: get empowered. Love what you do and dance from the center of your heart.

The entire planet has been imbalanced for quite some time. It has been depleted of this loving, creative, and stable feminine energy. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, stop slouching, stop being quiet. Stop faking. Get out there and poi!

Great little speech there grin I'm actually doing a research paper on benefits of skill toy practice. And because of availability of information, it's almost entirely poi. I have I think 1 small sourch for staff, and a pretty good one for hooping, and then some ones the have to do with dancing, because poi is a form of dance. I'll put some of it up here for you when I'm done for some more reasons for you all to get out there and poi!

The only luck is bad luck.

Shut up before I stall my poi up your ass grin

I do poi because I have weak wrists that scream bloody murder if I'm in downward facing dog. It's also helping me get coordinated and bring my left arm equal with my right (I am very dominantly right handed). I'm not nearly good enough to get spiritual about it yet, I'm still in the "ow hit myself in the face" stage and probably will be for some time.

I did like your post though, ladyleo.

@ringshadow: Yes, the wrists in that position could get hurt if they were weak! Awesome ambidexterity training, indeed. Keep practicing and you'll get there! Thanks. Poi, of course, is great for both men and women.

@SpinnerofDet: Neat! Thanks!

You know, judging on videos and pictures of spinners, particularly of weekend gatherings, it would seem that dissing the hippies would slight the majority of people who own poi.

Then again maybe it's just the majority of the people on camera. Eh.

Hm, interesting replies. Of course all of these concepts apply to men. I was just speaking to and encouraging a specific group at the time.

Just like, if I, a dandelion, were to speak to other dandelions, not intentionally leaving other flowers out, but simply just speaking to the dandelions. Nothing more, nothing less.

As a tulip that accepts and loves dandelions as equal to tulips, I feel like better equality and empowerment would come from acknowledging that sepals as well as bracts are completely irrelevant to the types of issues that effect all perennials.

I think there are some interesting feminist issues involved in the skill arts. The typical role of women's bodies in most artistic arenas is to be beautiful and passively appreciated. Women as strong and skilled bodies challenges how women's bodies are traditionally portrayed. In addition, object manipulation as such is traditionally dominated by male performers (I'm probably the most technical female spinner I know, and I can count the reasonably technical women spinners I've seen online on one hand) and there's increasing opportunities for women to become visible contributors to the arts.

I have more thoughts on this for when I'm not on company time... tongue2

If there is an essay question to this, I quit!

My answer will be anything but empowering, especially when I get to the part of explaining the flowers and aphids!

A flower is to a plant, what a ______ is to a human. So aphids are to a flower, what a ______ is to a ______.

The issues effect both men and women. I already said that. I'm trying to uplift a sheltered and oppressed gender. So, rather than being obsessed with trying to be included, gentlemen, help me encourage the (generally) sheltered and oppressed females. Thank you

Rouge_Dragon isn't a gentleman.

The point isn't one of inclusion. The point is that here in this community on the whole women are not oppressed or sheltered.

If you really want to inspire, you might want to acknowledge the lovely and supportive men that DO exist and acknowledge that there is no difference.

Females are neither superior nor inferior to men. Men also have just as many self esteem issues as women, I know I have. smile

I like to think, in the grand scheme of things, that women are far from sheltered or oppressed in the western world. In fact, in some places, seemingly, they wear the pants and shelter the men by taking the weight of the world and its woes upon themselves, allowing men to remain unaware.

Trust me, I experience 'true oppression' daily and know that it often contradicts being sheltered. I am not female, so I wouldn't know for certain. I can say I support you in your want to uplift the spirits of a group of people but cannot support someone that sets out to do this, but only exclusively.

Asking men to smile and walk away, is the same as saying be seen not heard, isn't that hypocritical?
