Ok so a thought has recently come to me that would require quite a few hands and quite a bit more preperation. All I want to do with the rest of my life is spin fire and enjoy living. I know I am not alone in this desire. Therefore the only sensible thing in my mind has been to save up enough money to buy some land somewhere, make a generous sized garden, and live. The basic needs of food and shelter would be covered. Next comes the idea of companionship, and in marches the commune ideal. All comments welcome, but this really is a serious idea of mine so lets not get too out there folks. Possible location: ALASKA; homestead act is still viable in alaska meaning you pick a plot of land, make it better, and after seven years its yours. Any takers?

Too bad you don't work on Caterpillar trucks. It seems that Australia has the only mechanics for them. So, they employ them with ridiculous salaries and they take over the pubs of Gainesville, TX every Friday night.

@refuge: Yessir; I'll actually be there quite often between the 13th and the 24th. We're having a vacation time at my work =)

@trip: The idea of having something over in your neck of the woods isn't anywhere near dead, and I still want to go to Alaska if for nothing else than to camp out for a while and spin in the woods.

@trip, nice, you should try and make it out for the next full moon gathering; There's talk of making it a yearly or twice a year (bilateral?) event.

I chose the name because I thought it would be ironic lol

Now I actually wish I could change it but I like my pretty discount when buying from the shop lol

I think that a commune is a great idea. I am aware i've tuned in a little late but i haven't been on here in months. Have you guys considered new zealand? Australian citizens don't need a visa to stay in new zealand and there is plenty of beautiful open space there. I've decided that one of my life goals is to make this idea a reality, even if its not for quite a few years... To raise funds for our little commune we could always put on shows throughout the area. considering the variety of talents we will have I think it would be quite easy to put on a show. Perhaps you could also just find someone with a property already. Or even try and contact someone with an island already and try and negotiate the use of one side of the island. One last thing, maybe you could offer the commune for twirlers as a holiday like place. pay a small fee to stay for a month or so, the only trouble would be making sure randoms who have never seen poi before don't just rock up to see the show. Ok i think I'm done. thats my 2 cents worth. ^^

Trip has reservations about NZ. Wairarpa seems like a great place somewhere tucked in the Rimutakas, or just about anywhere on the South Island.

Belize is already in the works wink

Going down to visit after the winter to check things out. An island may not be ideal, tropical depressions and hurricanes tend to slam the southern coasts of NA often.

I'm not certain what Dan has on his plate but it doesn't seem as if he is pursuing this idea ATM.

Got plans in the works to purchase a small complex on Lake Atitlan. 6 buildings, power and water, palapa in the courtyard.

I'll know more about it in a few months.

This is the lake, Lago de Atitlan. It's about 1/4 mile down the road from the property.
