I think there was a documentary about this guy on the BBC (UK) a while ago.

The majority of the climbing community (and me) think he's a complete idiot.

If he falls a huge rescue effort, costing a fortune and endangering other people, would be needed (even if it was just to recover his body).
People like him (and Alain Robert who constantly gets himself arrested) give climbers a bad name.
