Hi all

how many sixteen year olds are there on HOP?
how many of them are english?
how many of them think it is silly to legalise sex at sixteen but driving at seventeen and drinking at sixteen when it obviously does not work.
how many of you whom are still reading think this is fair?
(actual sixteen year old's such as myself from anywhere will be the most appreciated but everyone just go crazy and voice your opinions)

Drinking at 16? English?

18 m'dear, just 'cos everyone does it doesn't make it legal tongue2

And besides, you can drive a moped at 16, give us all a laugh.. grin
Which bit do you consider unfair anyway? You want the age of consent raised to even it up?

THE MEEK WILL INHERIT THE EARTH!

If that's okay with you?

My opinion is that the first one is a case of the first sensible point, the other two are more about waiting for people to get slightly more responsible

at 16 your body is still changing way to much to be drinking. I mean, at family parties and such I had some stuff and got buzzed of cheap table wine, lol, but opening the door for kids to buy their own booze, I don't know if its a good idea. I joined HoP when I was 16, interesting time. No matter how mature you think you are then, you almost always look back and go wtf was I thinking! Also Im from the US.

Don't mind me, just passing through.

mm, waiting 'til 18 to start heavy drinking does give your liver etc the full chance to be able to withstand such abuse.

Though kids drinking wine/ale is something that's been around forever, that's a throw back from when drinking the water in some places was an utterly stupid thing to do tongue2

The argument for lowering the drinking age in the US is that if kids are exposed to alcohol from an early age then they won't go stark raving mad when they turn 21 and all become raging alcoholics.

Honestly, the only thing that happened when I could drink leagally is that I started drinking decent beer instead of watery swill, lol. Oddly enough I have a cousing who is upset about turning 21. Drinking a Coors lite while under 21 makes her feel dangerous. Weird.

Don't mind me, just passing through.

Well, I do not drink, but in SA as far as I know, everything is legal at 18 (except some indemnity forms and leases and such).

You are allowed to drive a motorcycle of capacity less than or equal to 125cc at 16 though.

Otherwise, having been a stay-at-home-and-read rather than go out party (actually still being so) that was never really an issue....

Yeah I rather agree with mjk...when I was in highschool everyone actually came and we'd rock out and be ourselves, whereas now people don't turn up because they're out making fools of themselves at the latest venue. Not to mention the innocence of highschool ones where you'd have your love-of-your-life who you were going to be with forever-and-ever to be all cute with, but now it's dressing like a skankwhore and really being just as sleazy as the guys but in a completely different sort of way.

Wow. I really hate clubbing.

I dunno, I've been to some really good house parties, granted they've all been organised by my older friends. Maybe that has something to do with it..

Didn't really understand the original post but..
I'm 17
I'm from N.Ireland
Legal age to have sex here is 17
Legal age to drink is 18-don't think this is an "unfair" age
(plus does it really matter? Most people do it anyway! I don't drink but most of my friends who do said they enjoyed it much more when they were underage-them being of the legal age took some of the fun away from it?)

I know I’m going to annoy people here but what the heck.
Personally I think they should up the age for sex, there are way too many young single mums. Most of them have pretty much thrown there life’s away. Not entirely there fault the sex education in the UK is rubbish and the boys (because if they were men they would do the right thing) involved should be castrated. Keep it in your trousers until you learn how to be responsible for what you do with it, you stupid little mad2

As for drinking again in inclined to blame education. (I work in it I’m allowed to). But this time its got a lot to do with environment and the miss conception that drinking is cool. I spotted a documentary a while ago and there was this ten that’s right 10 YEAR OLD KID who would hide stashes of drink around the place. WHAT! Don’t get me wrong I drink, but that’s just terrifying.
My parents ran a bar, I was exposed to alcohol at a young age It took the mystery and glamour away from it all and there’s nothing cool about drinking so much you end up vomiting. When you go back to someone else’s place thinking I’m in here and end up holding there hair back as they are sick, real turn off I can tell you.
So raise that age as well, and get rid of the adverts.
Yes it sucks being 16. Raging hormones at the same time as exams equals loads of problems. On top of it all your probably thinking about sex and everyone’s talking about it when your at your least attractive,
But so what it doesn’t matter. It sucks being older work and bills equal stress as well and you look around your self and see people who seen far better off than you do, guess what the probably think the same about you. soapbox

You can make sex before a certain age as illegal as you want...but as long as females are physically able to produce children then children will be produced at those ages.

Age of consent here is 16, yet there are still teenage mothers under 16.

That’s true under age pregnancy was a big problem where I use too work. It just makes me mad because I don’t know how to stop it from happening. I see these people I see so much potential and I want to cry when thirteen, fourteen year olds talk about wanting a baby.
