First off, let me say how lucky I feel to have stumbled into a group of lovely people who are into poi and staff in my area. We gather weekly to practice, exchange tips, and burn. There are about 10 of us, with about 6 members who are very dedicated. After a month of watching my friends play with fire and practicing diligently with my sock poi, I decided was ready to try dancing with flames. They were very patient with me, and made me feel very safe before lighting 'em up.

The first two seconds were almost alarming...there you are with balls of fire hanging from chains looped around your fingers... and then I made my first tentative circles. The first time hearing that roar so close gave me shivers. I didn't do anything too impressive, a few turns and a two beat weave. I wasn't brave enough to try a butterfly yet...but none the less I was entranced. I played until they ran out of fuel. It was the most invigorating, enthralling, fantastic feeling I have ever known. I'm addicted, and I can't wait to learn more and burn more!

Biggest rush ever. Cherish it. I remember losing my burnt cherry. Is that what we are calling it. Burnt cherry?

Don't mind me, just passing through.

lol....

Yeah, my first burn is still pretty vivid. Does not hurt that I still get there around the same time every year....

I honestly find my socks (or flowtoys) more fun. Fire has a better effect with people watching though. Meh.
