ooo, just found this thread. have been cubing since late last year, can now do a 3x3x3 (2:30), 4x4x4 (4:19) and 5x5x5 (about 8mins)

have been learning new algorithms from www.speedcubing.com for most of this afternoon, just to speed them all up a little smile

I can do 3x3x3 in under a minute normally. I'm working on the 5x5x5 and I'm pretty close! P

Pineapple, how could you use a website? frown

Kidding biggrin

Oh, yea, my best recorded is 52 seconds. I know I can do better though wink

Know what you mean. OCD + unsolved Rubik's cubes are a bad combination.

have been slacking off on memorising these new algorithms, but have been working on placing the 1st layer corners and 2nd layer edges simultaneously smile

hehe, also, unsolved rubiks cubs + exams study are a bad combination. its how i learnt last year tongue

my record is 29.94 seconds but I set that quite a while ago and haven't practiced my lately. my average is probably around 50 sec right now.

but anyways, to whoever was wondering about the stickers:
Changing stickers will make the cube unsolvable. If you actually move stickers, you could create an impossible piece, such as an edge with a white and yellow sticker. On most rubik's cubes, white and yellow go on opposite sides so there is no white yellow edge. You could also make too many of one type of piece and not enough of another, etc.

You can also make it unsolvable by taking it apart and twisting one corner (or actually two if you twist them the same way), or flipping only one edge, or a few other things that put it in impossible positions. Overall, a cube assembled into random order has a 1/12 probability of being solvable.

no I think the probability is less than that. I know where you're getting the 12 from but remember that the pieces have to be placed in the right way I think that the probability is closer to 1/144 if not greater.

how 1/144?

if you start moving stickers or putting corners where edges should be, sure, it will skyrocket. Random stickering has a very low chance of even making a valid set of pieces, much less of having those pieces in a solvable arrangement.

actually if you do the first and second layers at the same time by lining up one side on the top layer with the center from the middle layer and then wrap it all the way around the cube it dropped me off almost 20 seconds.

could you explain how to do this in more detail/link to somewhere that can?

I can do one/ two diagonally opposite sides by lining up corner and centre pieces at the same time, but I can't work out how to do more than this.

Thanks!
