Posted:Well, seeing as we are starting to take over the

"Offical HOP "I just learnt a new move" thread", I thought we should contain this bit just to jugglerisng and the throwing and dropping of balls, clubs, rings and other miscellaneous juggling props.

Today I mothered learning 441.

I had a few throws of 531 but only 1 catch. I think my 5 is too high.

Note for the mods: I DEMAND on behalf of the jugglers on this site, as has been done with the aforementioned "Poi moves thread", that this one is made a sticky thread.

Otherwise its just favouritism really....

a hand level change would work fine - either catching high or throwing low with one hand smile

the second thing you said is horrible to try and describe using siteswap.

it leads onto polyrhythm juggling which is a nightmare to keep clean.

then it can't possibly be 100% sync smile

either your throws or your catches will be slightly async.

cole. x

or you could use our old friend dwell time to throw sync but catch slightly off sync

if your throws are sync, your catches will be slightly off sync and vice versa.

you have to adjust dwell time for that.

if you had uniform dwell time then *neither* your catches or your throws could be sync.

qualification gets much more interesting when you start talking about patterns rather than just base patterns.

e.g. how many catches would constitute a qualifying run of 7531 mills?

a qualifying run of 7531 mills would be 12 (or possibly even 24) catches.

otherwise you would have 'qualified' the pattern without running the pattern all the way through even once - which kind of defeats the point of 'qualification'.

Posted:7531 mess? I'd love to see someone do that...

Yesterday I was teaching my left hand to not be so awkward, I was practised -

5b half shower, left hand throwing over the top.
5b starting with left hand throwing first.
645 with my left hand, teaching it throw on the outside felt awkward.

If you throw up 7531 mills twice and catch that's a juggle ain't it? I can do [mills]...44447531444...and so that would be 4 catches of 7531 mills (assuming i catch em all).

[mills]...44447531753144444[mills] would be a juggle, as long as you don't drop

You can't say that 75317531 isn't juggling the SS "7531" whether you carry on juggling, stop and catch them or go into reverse backcrosses afterwards - whether yiu're in mills mess or not...

If you really want to get techy, how many catches of 741561 mills would you have to do for a run - including getting in and out of it??!! confused

Posted:you can qualify the siteswap but the pattern is more than just the numbers.

imagine watching a juggler juggle 7531 mills and look at the pattern the balls make in the air.

now answer this "how many throws of 7531 mills does the juggler have to do before he/she repeats the pattern?"

remember, there are 3 hand positions to throw from and 4 different heights of throws in a set order...

i reckon you could qualify 753144 mills will (which would need 12 catches as opposed to the 24 7531 mills requires).

now try this silly one on for size: "how many catches do you need to get to qualify 1 ball mills?".

as for your question, 741561 has 6 numbers so you'd be doing 741 on one side of the mills hand pattern and 561 on the other side so i'd say you'd have to make 12 catches to qualify that pattern smile

notice that to qualify 741561 mills it takes *less* throws than it does to qualify 7531 mills - half the amount! ubbloco

incidentally you can't add getting into and getting out of the pattern to the number of throws for the qualify - it has to be a pattern that you can run indefinitely if you want to denote a minimum 'qualifying run' (which is what 'qualify' is short for i believe).

where's that seal when you need him rolleyes

Posted:I flashed 7 twice in a row yesterday!

I was pleased. Especially considering I had to use balls of different size and "squishyness" to make my total up to &. I got it on my new camera, so if I can get my hands on a firewire card and cable I'll make a video.

Also... I just made up this crappy 3 ball move. It's sort of like chops only instead of throwing to the opposite side after the chop you orbit under the ball you just "chopped" over and throw it up on that side. It's sort of like a reverse burkes barrage (if that's even a move). Sorry I can't explain it any better. Anyone know if this has a name or even what I'm talking about?

if you can be bothered, put 7531 mills into jugglelab and see how many throws it takes for the pattern to repeat - i guarantee you its 12.

incidentally, have you noticed what the differences are between 7531 mills, 5317 mills, 3175 mills and 1753 mills when the patterns are run indefinitely?

compare that with running 5313 mills and comparing it to running 531 mills, 315 mills and 153 mills.

Posted:I agree with cole mills is a 6 beat pattern (both sides) 7531 is a 4 beat pattern as the highest common factor of 4 and 6 is 12, 7531mills is 12 beats pattern i.e. one rev is 12 throwns

p.s. 97531 is 10 beats for both sides so it's only a flash tongue

unless you're doing in mills of course wink

how about this one:

3 clubs, flat-half-single-half-flat.

how many catches do you need to qualify that pattern?

why, if the ss is 3, do you not just need 6 catches?

now think about how many catches you need to do before you get all three clubs back into the original starting position (i.e. holding all of them by the handles) and tell me how many throws you would need for a qualify...

p.s. peter bone flashed 13 balls last night!!!

this and the other juggly thread are just where the jugglers hang out - as long what we're talking about doesn't spill into any spinning related areas of the site where nyc might accidentally see it ( wink ) i think we can talk about whatever in here.

besides, ucof started this thread - he deserves at least one or two of his threads to go a little off track from time to time wink

besides, there was a brand new never-done-before trick mentioned in my last post - peter bone's new world record! biggrin

I was trying to get some 7b stuff working last night, with limited success. I've been trying 7b gatto's multiplex recently, is hard. 966 is difficult. half shower getting there (slowly) but i was really trying to get a sextuplex - two triplexes going thru each other and back into 7b. Hoipefully i'll get it before I leave this country!
