Well, seeing as we are starting to take over the

"Offical HOP "I just learnt a new move" thread", I thought we should contain this bit just to jugglerisng and the throwing and dropping of balls, clubs, rings and other miscellaneous juggling props.

Today I mothered learning 441.

I had a few throws of 531 but only 1 catch. I think my 5 is too high.

Note for the mods: I DEMAND on behalf of the jugglers on this site, as has been done with the aforementioned "Poi moves thread", that this one is made a sticky thread.

Otherwise its just favouritism really....

its the whole thing of learning to juggle with the clubs pointing outwards that is holding me back i think.

after about 8-10 catches, i start throwing them too straight-on and then my hand starts getting beatings frown

Tis my problem too. My forearms are also getting a battering from the thin end of the club. frown

How are you supposed to classify something as "solid" anyways?

Im guessing it isnt simply qualifying everytime you try.
Is it so that you can do it as long as you like?

its subjective jon.
there are lots of definitions of solid and you can choose which your preferred one is smile

a pattern is solid when you can:

jugglie it for x catches
juggle it for y cycles
juggle it from cold
juggle it looking at someone/thing through the pattern
juggle using it as your 'resting' pattern

i usually go by the 'do it from cold' measure and the even more subjective, 'when i feel comfortable with it'.

the best test of if i think have a trick solid is whether or not i will attempt it with globalls in a club smile

you say 42 catches, i reckon it's solid when you hit 43 catches wink

in that case i have very few patterns solid.

I reckon it's solid when you can go into a pattern and run it for a while and then get out of it again. Either that or run it for a while without moving your feet. but yes it is very subjective...as a rule of thumb i reckon 4 full rotations is enough, juggling it twice and being in control of it, not correcting mistakes as you go along.

tim that sucks frown

that happened to me a little while back and i was happy that it was only one wrist - if it is only one, you could practice:

3 balls in one hand - cascade, inverse cascade, inwards circles, outwards circles and 8040

4 balls in one hand - flash

2 clubs in one hand - some 6020 (triple-single on the 6 and 2)

otherwise there are always:

balances - club on chin/nose/forehead/foot

kickups - ball from foot to foot, ball/club from foot to hand, ball from foot to head

headrolls

hug juggle

i've started getting some decent runs of 4 ball mills (in amongst all the failed short runs mind) - i had runs of 8 rounds, two nights in a row which ain't no fluke i reckon smile

A question for you juggler types...

4 balls - high/low shower - RH throwing 5's, LH throwing 3's.
Should they be sync'd or split? (Or both or alternating)

durbs- in 4 ball high/low shower async RH throws 9's and 5's left hand throws 1's i.e. 9151

in 4 ball high low shower sync RH throws 8 across then 4 across LH throws 2 across i.e. (x8,x2),(x4,x2)

so take your pick but most people do somewhere between the two

Maybe I should change this too something abit nicer, humm no I still think your all Ccensoredt

53

that's a 4 ball async half-shower durbs.

4 ball sync half-shower is a cheat and is usually juggled as a galloped version of (4x,4x)(4x,4x).

hi-lo 4b shower is 9151

Ah - yup
Understand the half shower bit (as it needs the 1 I'm guessing...)
And yeah - I did seem to occasionally gallop the rhythm (although how they're 4x's confuses me smile )

Sorted smile

he's a fun one for you to try then:

juggle 53 (which should be perfectly async) and gradually lower the height of your 5's and raise the height of your 3's until they are the same height.

by necessity, the rhythm of your throws will have changed gradually from async to sync.

the galloped rhythms in between the two will tend to screw with your head but being a drummer, it may well make sense to you!

don't worry about 4x's - sync siteswap is awkward and is mainly evil and hence it is not suitable for use in the real world wink

cos 7131 is with 3 balls smile

i reckon you'll be wanting to know the 'magic siteswap mean average trick' about now...

1. get yourself a siteswap.

2. add all the digits up.

3. divide by the number of digits.

4. the result will give you the number of objects required for juggling that siteswap.

so 7+1+3+1=12

12/4=3

so 7131 is a trick requiring 3 objects.

9+1+5+1=16

16/4=4

so 9151 is a trick requiring 4 objects.

magic smile

Boo, my async half-shower sucks, but there is a definite split between the higher lower balls of my sync version. smile
