Hello everyone,
There was a topic circulating the toss juggling world about making a list of the 40 best jugglers. I figured, "hey, we should do that for poi!". So yes, please reply to this with your absolute favorite poi spinner, (hopefully someone we've all heard of) and I'll be counting them, and putting out a list of the top 40.

thanks!

wow. i must say i am sold. since men are best at everything, but women always look better, the worlds best poi spinner must be a male with sexy female legs.

it was already a given really. once you have mother natures son, theres not really any point counting on another 39 is there?

To be honest, Im in the "there is no one best spinner" camp. However, that is NOT what this thread is about. The OP is asking for 40 or so people that are considered the best in the world.

While we aren't supposed to go all "who is the better than who", I think that in this instance, it can be ok.

People I can think of in no particular order:

Me
Simian
Bluecat
Mr Chutney
Bovril Monkey
Flaming_Deity (G)
Dom
Glass
Coleman
Ronapotomous
Ed (LTC)
FluffyNapalmFairy

Thats all I can think of at the moment, Im sure there are more, but it is a Sunday morning and I feel a little fuzzy.

EDIT -
Yuta
Brettstar
Pineapple Pete
Any girl with large sboob grin

What a load of Bunk.

(Sorry UCOF, not you, you know I love you...)

Asking for the worlds top 40 spinners is like asking for the worlds top 40 authors. It's totally subjective and has no real basis of judgement at all.

Stuff like this just causes rifts amongst people, who actually care about listed, but perhaps because they live in a far away country arent...

Might as well do a top 40 'worlds best muffin impersonators'
or "top 40 worlds longest toe hairs' ...

(in which case, I vote for pineapple_pete... only because I know him and I've seen his toes... tongue2 )

Currently on the right side up of the world.

Another issue with this is that its not going to be accurate anyway.

Of your list, UCOF... how many of them do you know personally?

This would end up comprising mostly of HoPpers with a few extras, it essentially would just illustrate how far the social networking goes.

Unlike juggling we don't have competitions and such things... so theres really no way to get yourself known anyway except through networking and youtube.

Everyone does it differently anyway, compare Ronan and Bluecat, different styles to the point that it may as well be a different discipline.

Oh god... way too tired to be posting here. Mmm... bedtime.

actually that is something that could be done, i'm sure toe nail hairs can be measured, of whoever wanted to enter the competition, an objective winner could be found, unlike poi (or juggling) where as previously stated its subjective.

and dont give me the "juggling has competitions" nonsense, they are pure numbers or pattern based (objective) but subjective when it comes to an 'act' or 'routine'. likewise it could be said that someone who can do a hyperloop is better than someone who can only do a tbw, but when they are making an act to be watched it becomes subjective.

and who would say any of the 'best' spinners/jugglers are not performers?

Maybe a better thread would be your personal top 40 favorite poi spinners?

That way every one could get some insight in to the styles of poi that different people like.

After all...he only listed English, Scottish and Irish spinners???

Well, here goes my list.

Bluecat for his bizarre originality.

Ronan for his ridiculously smooth style.

Yuta for making me want to move.

Pineapple_Pete and Brettstar for being the first people I've seen in the flesh to teach me something new... it opened a lot of doors.

Nathaniel_Everist for being the first spinner that I met that was around my level rather than being well below or well above my skill.

nulleamai for always having something in his videos that I've been playing with... I swear you're spying on me.

Kate and Josh for putting on a lovely festival that truly did open my eyes.

Ciara for giving me the best tip poi tip I've ever received.

Richee for always writing something I understand... then don't understand then I think I understand it, but really its something completely different I'd never thought of anyway.

Anyone that posts in technical, especially advanced poi section... I don't get to play with other people much, HoP is a poi lifeline for me.

I have to agree with Jonny that G should be in there I do like to watch that guy spin grin

also what do you class as best? I'd say devkev because of his uniqueness using juggling and hats at the same time as spinning, it makes poi look good tongue2 breaks up some of those circles.

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.

Yeah, I'm going with Yuta, for supreme mastery of "floaters"
Greg Maldonado, for being the first high-level spinner I've met.
Nick Woolsey, for bringing yoga and tai chi elements into play.
Cyrill, for being so darn confusing!

Well I don't like to say "Favourite Spinners" but if I had to chose a term for the purposes of this list it'd be "The Most Inspiring"

1) Kat - A friend of mine, she got me into Poi spinning in the first place and I still regard her as one of the most inspiring Poi spinners I know at least.

2) Cyrille - For me, it was he who opened up the wonderful world of spinning in Geometry. He showed me enough so that I could go away and try to formulate my own ideas and it encouraged me!

3) Ronan - For showing me just how damned cool throws can be if you try. He also showed me a couple of nice little tricks you can do at Clonakilty with Hybrids as well which I thoroughly enjoyed!

4) G - His plane changing wizardry has kept me awake at night thinking of the possibilities of spinning along the lines of a cube.

5) Nevisoul - Again for his mix of smooth flow and fairly technical spinning (At least in my experience it is!) As well as doing some excellent work with Hybrids

6) Felixwah - He's essentially the dude I look up to for my spinning. We show each other all the mental stuff we've seen and learned and geeking out with him helps me clean up a lot of what I've learned/already know.

7) Nick.W - For showing me that just being good at pulling off a trick is only half the battle and that movement around an area is just as key.

That's my list I think smile My problem is that I never really get out much in terms of meets or anything so I don't particularly know any of the secret spinners or anything frown
So, for now, those guys make up my list!
