So, I was practicing in my dorm room- interesting in its own right. Our beds are both lofted so I have about a 4-foot wide corridor in which to spin. It's just small enough that I have to pay extra attention to my planes.

Anyway, I was trying to learn fountains, and up until now I thought I knew the 3-beat weave. Turns out it was actually a 4-beat. O_o Of course figuring that out made it much easier to learn the reverse 3, which until now had been giving me hell. After that the basic fountain just clicked... nothing with windmills yet, as I think I would take out the fluorescent light fixture. smirk

Oh, and then the 5-beat just sort of appeared out of thin air. O_o

This isn't really a 'I learned a new trick' post.... It's more of a 'Am I really that bad at counting?' thread, and partly me laughing at myself for not getting the 3-beat until AFTER I learned the fountain.

Has anyone else done something like this? Where you just can't get a move until you try a tougher trick that uses that move? Or realized you were doing something wrong all along... grin

Yep, I was doing an extra beat on my right side before I really started spending any time on HoP and seeing the beats counted that way. I was just trying to emulate what I had seen some other folks do - but once I realized what was going on, splitting it up into 3 and 5 beat weaves was an easy step... I always found the reverse 3 beat way easier than the forward, for some reason. *shrugs*

I can't find the thread for 1.5s, so this will do.

I've got a pendulum weave variation that I have dubbed "The Canoe"

Its essentially a 1.5 with an extra beat on each side with a head to head interaction. I'll make a video at some point when I can be bothered to illustrate this.

Try the movement, Nathaniel and you just might work out why I called it The Canoe. tongue2 It was that or the steam train. But Canoe sounds better I thought.

I'll show you on Sunday if this description doesn't make sense...

Canoes caught on video!

Mine are sloppy for now, especially on one side, but there are a few decent ones in there and its enough to give a good idea of whats going on.

Its a head to head interaction, so if you wanted to do them 100% perfectly the poi heads would never leave one another.

Is it really different enough to deserve its own name? Potentially not, but I really like the name, so humour me. tongue2

I like it, I'm glad I've given you a burst of pendular madness, aston, I'd like to know what you come up with.

Have you tried line isolations? They can be linked to pendulums in a number of ways. smile

Blah. I can never get 5 beat weaves.

For some reason, my friend has this idea that there are no 2 beat weaves, 3 beat weaves are 5 beat weaves, and 5 beat weaves are 7 beat weaves. He claims that all good videos say this. Then he can't find the ones that actually say so, 'cuz they've probably been deleted for a reason. =P And he's STILL convinced.

He's probably trying to count the beats off both poi, not just one.

What does he call it when you do a 2 beat and say "Hey, whats this?"

He goes: "That's not a move." =\ "I dunno."

And if you count the beats on either side, it's 3 for 3, 5 for 5, etc.
And if you count for each cycle, possibly. He just says he doesn't know why his 'tons of videos say 3 beat weave is really 5 beat weave' (which mysteriously vanished. =P), but he tries to be legitimate.

The way he acts like he knows exactly how the melbourne shuffle was started, despite my evidence, is also hilarious. =P You guys should meet him.

Hah! The Melbourne shuffle is known in Canada? Had no idea.

I thought perhaps he was trying to count both poi on both sides. (I usually count one poi's journey through its cycle) It'd make the 3 beat weave 6 and the 5 beat weave 10... but it'd be hard to count so I thought he'd be going 1 2 3 4... its more than 3 less then 7, must be 5. And then losing count on the 5 and thinking that its more than 5 but not difficult enough to be 9

Just not much. There's a club that plays Hardstyle every Friday night. =P

That's probably it. I told him why it's a 5 beat weave, when there are so many obvious reason why it should be a 3. "I don't know. I was just told this way by every video I saw, and I saw about 50. Which is more than you." He claims to have seen about 50. >_> Bleh. So after many heated debates, I just simply shut up.

Yeah, its actually a big conspiracy. We here at HoP have actually buried those videos and all that claim that there is no 2 beat weave...

Heheh.

I met someone who thought similarly about the 3 and 5, but did not deny the semi-existance of 2 beat weaves.... Did not argue that I was wrong, just said that that had been what she had been told.
