If anyone still needed convincing as to whether we can trust google...

Google.org

This is an amazing project. It's another example of google using their position to benefit the people of the world. I'm sure some people will see it as a cynical marketting ploy but I'm pretty convinced that its not.

Folks,

I know Sergey. We went to the same school, after all.

GOOGLE IS NOT AN EVIL COMPANY.

A company that runs a Burning Man camp, that gives liberally to charity, that was founded on the mantra of "Do No Evil" is NOT EVIL.

Sorry, but it pisses me off that people automatically assume that if you come up with a good idea and it is successful that you must automatically be evil.

I have my own healthy distrust for corporations, but not for Google.

Trust him, he donated to charity... and he shagged my cousin-in-law...

No, wait a moment - trust HIM, after all someone who can make fun of himself, can't truly be evil, could he?

On a sidenote: as I never accused Google to be evil, I'm off the list ain't I? devil

their not evil now, but what happens 50 years from now? hopefully they stay the same, lots of corporation start off pretty good natured if not egalitarian, then go down the slippery slope of corporate tomfoolery.

good point, railspinner - how about people supporting Google today and the directors selling out tomorrow?

OK, so that's 50 years from now. Shall we hate them now for what they might become?

I might murder someone one day. Shall we execute me now because it's possible?

Look, they're not perfect. They're gonna goof up. They're gonna make mistakes. They're gonna make a bad decision here and there. But as far as corporations go, I'll stand behind this one. At least for now.

They actually tried to not incorporate and find another way around it, but unfortunately because they don't really produce a tangible product, such models as a cooperative weren't available to them. So their only practical recourse was to incorporate.

It's sad to see people so prejudiced against any successful corporation that they assume that it must be evil just because it's a successful corporation.

Im not judgeing google. I am merely saying things change, after todays culture in google dies off or moves on it may not going to be such a wonderful thing.

Im a big fan of google, I hope they inspire other upcoming corporations to follow suit, or for existing corporations to re tool themselves.

they aren't the first egalatarian corporation. Unfortunatly the likes of google is rare these days.

The less people know the more they believe
