Posted:McCain has a problem. A big one. He got an endorsement. A BIG endorsement by a very influential group in American politics.

He got an endorsement by Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda also endorsed Bush four years ago.

Quote:
John McCain isnt boasting about a new endorsement, one of the very, very few he has received from overseas. It came a few days ago:

Al Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming election, read a commentary on a password-protected Islamist Web site that is closely linked to Al Qaeda and often disseminates the groups propaganda.

Now, you might be tempted to say that they're just playing games. They're using reverse psychology because they really want Obama.

Read his argument. I think they want McCain. I don't think they're playing games. I think they're dead serious. Because while Al-Qaeda is many terrible, horrible things, they are usually very honest.

See, one of the reasons Al Qaeda benefits from U.S. military action in the Mid-East is that little boys who grow up and watch people getting blown to bits grow up to be angry young men. And that is what Al Qaeda is. A bunch of very angry men.

Posted:Hi Pele...I heard the gun sales up thing on a local news station and that story stated gun sales were up all over the US. I did a little research on the story and i couldn't find anything save a few stories saying sales were up in specific states only. I yoinked the idea of sales always being up when a the democrats may win an election from one of those stories and I'm willing to treat those stories as "anecdotal"

I'll buy the increase in gun shows and start of hunting season as being valid reasons for increased sales, after all it does make sense, as does the fears of gun owners thinking that the democrats are going to take their guns away.

Hi ShaolinPoi.

So i take it you're NOT a socialist then.

I will note your affinity for rhetoric and propaganda based on your swinging between extremes. Obama's not even close to being a socialist. Sure there's a few things that could be called socialistic, like wanting to spend your tax dollars on educating you.

Which would your rather have done with those tax dollars, Seeing people who can't afford post secondary education have a chance at that education, or watch your assets in action on Live Leak ?

Really it doesn't have to cycle between two extremes, there is a middle ground.

Why would you think that the simple act of the government giving a student tuition in exchange for "community service" would automatically lead to a socialist/communist style throughout the whole education system ? Has the military's college credit program led to that ? This, is after all . pretty much the same thing.

If you socialised your health care system, you wouldn't have to worry about substandard care at free clinics. We don't have those clinics here in Canada, if you get sick or hurt you go to the hospital and get treated, simple.

There's still room for healthy competition in those countries that have made the decision to spend their revenues in looking after their population. A Vote for Obama is not a vote for a system like China's....not by a long shot, that's the rhetoric and propaganda.

Yup, live in the UK, and the system was working much much more effectively before they partially privatised it.

Posted:I hear the term 'socialism' thrown about very insultingly... and while i myself am not a socialist, i have to confess that capitalism is failing pretty bad here in america.

In a system based on greed and power, powerful greedy people continue to be rich and powerful. Its very strange to me that the government that is supposed to be protecting us is lying to us every day.

It is true, i suppose to a degree some information should remain classified.

But i dont like being lied to.

The system feels that we are not intelligent enough to handle the facts, because some of us arent. I dislike this intensely, knowing every day that im so out of the loop.

This country was founded on the ideology that should our government ever become corrupt, the people could rise and unseat it. Thats why the right to bear arms came about.

What value does this have now, when the system has taken every precaution to prevent itself from being unseated?

They are far smarter than us.

Way better funded.

Always a step ahead.

Its the only way the powerful continue to be powerful.

We are in fact a slave to the system that is supposed to be protecting us...

And honestly, socialism isnt sounding as bad as people mean it to.

Idk, intrepid youth spouting ideas again.

And re: civil war... totally. I can imagine very vividly what will happen, ppl openly brandishing weapons in the streets.

It will be small amounts of chaos.

But it will be terrible.

Im growing more and more disgusted each day.

I wish for utopia, but i live in Sin City. All around me, signs of the corruption and the hatred that make this world so censored terrible.

I find it frustrating.

Posted:<--- background - bastard child to a failing single mom who did her best simply to feed us. The cool thing about it was I didn't know there was a more materialistic life out there. So I never had the problem of missing it. An expensive grand day to me was going to a drive in theater when my mom found a discount for one car admission and squeezed us into it smile

Then family fell apart and I went out on my own and learned like many have said that this system is a big piece of (*$%. I've fought for everything I've ever done including eating peanut butter on a daily basis to save for rent when I had no power.

It was through pulling other people in who were doing just as badly and giving myself a motive to continue that I actually managed to succeed at everything I did. Competition is the only reason I'm alive. Socialist principles is the only reason they're alive. smile But, that's my life motto, and my opinion.

As far as applets in a website, it isn't practical - simply an example. The concept is is that hourly (fair) pay only reduces the need to program efficiently and professionally. As most programmers will joke - their profession is the only profession when they boast "Mine is smaller!"

As far as the government being smarter. That's not necessarily true, it's simply that where they ARE not wanting us to unseat them, as an entire entity of several thousand - for every one of us who thinks it could be necessary to unseat them there are a hundred people around us who would be content to not cause trouble. For every one hundred of us who have issues with the government and how it works, there are dozens of individual and separate reasons why we think so. It's a matter of organization, not intelligence. Darken remember - F*ck them! we spin fire! wink

Also, to all of you cats! Hell yea! The elections are over after today. Hopefully, we will see the vice grip on the economies juevos be released and we can moderately be rest assured that whatever future we end up with, we can all stand up, stay alive, and spin till the end! After elections, I hopefully can return to being the politically ignorant happy entity I once was. Tired of this touchy subject. Cheers! :-D

Posted:Oh wait.. I just read that. Clearly I was misunderstood - China is GOOD at being communist. Everyone else sucked. as far as rhetoric and propaganda, I'm not basing my assertion of Obama's concepts on just one thing. Nor on just the next example if I were to give it. I'm basing it on the fact that he is operating as a socialist leader should and always has when trying to bring such a change to the government. What is this nonsense you ask?

1) My first concern of this came nearly 8 months ago shortly after Obama's speech in Germany. I heard some craziness of rumors about him and laughed it off thinking," whatever, a decent reason to check him out at least". So I hop up on the internet and pull up his campaign page. Generalized ideas, whatever, nothing substantial of course, too early. So, I pick his defense idea, which was - "Increase spending on local defense for critical sites, because I don't think there is enough"(paraphrased) I send a question like- "Why do we need to tie up more of our already bad economy into self defense?" Just to see what might come of it. (Not even a serious question)

Here's the fun part: I get an auto reply, that gives some happy go lucky "Many people just like you wonder about Obama and how he came to be who he is!" whatev, "We're offering a one time seminar called 'Obama camp' in which those who register will spend two days at our retreat and learn all of the things that made him who he is today" whatev, "Those of you who graduate this camp will be required to work on Obama's campain in key battleground states to secure him the election" que?, "When we win this election those of you who helped will be granted government positions in your areas!" wtf?! Required to work? Granted government power for helping him win?!

Yeah... That was my first hint. Rather big one too.

2) During an interview, Obama was asked how he plans on being commander and Chief if he doesn't understand military maneuvers or how to efficiently make decisions on what needs to be done on the ground in regards to whether it's right or necessary. His reply, "I would of course simply leave that to my advisers to decide." "Would you not think it necessary to make sure they aren't abusing their power? Or acting unnecessarily?" "That's for them to decide, the people I would pick would be completely qualified in their fields"

^_- Also a tactic of socialistic government policy. (IE: "Ministry of Defense" "Ministry of Religion")

Don't feel like going on, it's not the what he is doing. It's the logic behind how he plans on doing it. His own socialistic revisionary ideas have been broadcasted lately, as he described what the problem with the courts and the government is and how they did not get into "redistributional" aspects during the civil rights movements.

In my opinion, and in many others - his belief in socialism has been confirmed. The question that seems to be propping up, is "Is that a bad thing?"

Again, in my opinion, for America yes. For many other places, no, if it is done correctly.

I just can't get the analogy of Socialism in America relating to a terminal person on life support. Yeah, they're alive, but what's the point? O_O

:-D

Once again, the elections are almost over! Wooo

I kinda thought that was a bad move on his part. Even if he was gonna do it, he said it right before elections and the toss up states are all strong in the coal industry. A bunch of other craziness happened last night too. Democrats were openly supporting McCain and dropping bombs on Obama's campaign. It was like, suicide. If the words from last night had a day or two to propogate I think McCain would be landsliding by now. I couldn't believe it.

trying to compare those two things is outrageous, even though its not the right reaction im not sure what is when police, the supposed upholders of law are caught abusing their power.

riots happened in my hometown when police purposefully knocked over a woman holding her baby when chasing after someone who ran into the house. it was unprovoked and unnecessary, just like rodney king's beating, im not saying he was innocent and didnt deserve to be arrested but he did not deserve what he got.

saying the blank panthers will riot because obama loses an election is ridiculous.

at the least, there are no innocent parties in that case

as for the woman, I've been in similar situations and been lucky enough to get out of their way. but that's me w/e

someone that been beaten to the floor by 3/4 people is not a threat.

as you say you were lucky, she wasnt, neither was the child. all this was proven at the disciplinary hearing, all they received was a year's paid retraining. absolute joke.

i think its ludicrous to think black people would riot if obama lost the election.

now if he lost the election due to some dodgy behaviour, well im sure alot of people would make their voices+presence known not just the black panthers.

As for strung out people - very strong and angry
as for Rodney king, honestly as much as that is brought up, there are so many twists and variants to stories that I'd just as well forget it then try to use it in an argument. Especially when the facts from both sides are so bias and slippery. imop ^^

Posted:simta, it's a completely logical point.

People riot when their favorite sports team WINS a game.
People riot when the band they went to see sucked.
People riot over crap all the time, and this election comes with so much tension you can cut it with a knife.

Obama has more security than any president in history, and he isn't even president yet.
4 people were arrested for plotting his assassination, already.
He hasn't even won.

There are alot of people, including members of the Black Panthers and ACLU who have been interviewed and are already saying if he doesn't win it's because he's black. They're working suseptible people into a frenzie over it.

Yes. I do believe they will view this as a HUGE injustice, ust as King was (no he didn't deserve to be beat, and in many people's eye, Obama doesn't deserve to lose) because they are already saying they will. When perceived injustices happen, people riot stupidly, not that you can riot smartly I don't think.

Just as much as I believe the KKK will also view it as an injustice and react in a repulsive manner as well. I wasn't being one sided at all.
No matter who wins, there are extremist groups who are going to behave stupidly.

But I do not believe that it will result in a civil war, which is what was brought up earlier.

Posted:I dont think its logical to assume black people will riot if obama loses, and its even a little racist to assume all black people are voting for obama.

Not calling you racist, just that pattern of thought.

And honestly, im glad obama won, but i agree entirely about the, how was it put earlier.. 'golden sheen wearing off'?

Everyone is looking to Obama to take away all of their problems, not realizing that he is just a man.

Hes gonna do some sh*t we like, probably alot we dont.

And he aint gonna fix everything.

People who look to him as a messiah, who expect it all to be better are very hopeful and very foolish.

The damage done to our economy took many years to do, and it will
take many more to undo. I think even if obama flawlessly PWNS this presidency, we wont be left in a perfect country.

Overall, im happy with the election, anyone else have thoughts regarding?

All i can say is, fingers crossed.

And while im not the most politically savvy, its been quite entertaining reading about your thoughts and opinions (even the ones i dont agree with)

Theres a surprising amount of intellect here on what i thought were simply poi forums. Im pleaseantly surprised, and im glad to have met you all.

***edit***

Regarding the black panthers, i think i have to retract my statement.

Its as logical to assume a black extremist group will riot if he loses as to assume nazis will riot if he wins.

My mistake entirely, i just reread your post and realized you were specifically referring to one group.

Just saying based on stuff I've read and stuff I've seen.
Discovery had a show on the American Skinheads, complete with interviews in the middle of the segments, in which they themselves admitted there would be "violent reprocussions should we get a black president."

I hope it's all wrong and that people can just accept things and move along with their lives. I'd love nothing more than that, actually. I also am a realist and know better than that. The arrest of those 4 plotting Obama's death already proves that.

Hate seems to be pretty equal opportunity, which is *really* sad.

Though I also have said that I don't think it will be civil war. I maintain I think that *if* it does happen it will be isolated and not a nation wide thing.

Last night after the win a group of student ran down to the White House and started screaming profanities and throwing stuff at it (they were assuming Bush was home and cared).
Senseless violence born of false security from the election.
They were escorted away by men with *really* big guns.
Creepy.
