Rainbow Serpent Festival This is one of Australia's best outdoor psytrance-focussed annual events.. Located 2.5 hrs from Melbourne, this party spans 3 days of natural beauty, amazing interaction and a perfect harmony between technology, people and mother earth. Love it!

Okay, who's going?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DreamTime Story of the Rainbow Serpent:
"In the beginning of the world was the dreamtime. Nothing moved and nothing grew. All the spirits of the animals lay in the earth, sleeping. Everything was still and quiet. One day, the rainbow serpent awoke in her cave deep under the earth. She pushed her way out of the earth and began to travel over the land, pushing rocks out of her way and leaving deep valleys where her body passed by.
She traveled over all the land, pushing up the mountains and creating deep valleys and even large craters when she turned in circles. After many days she became tired of being alone and called out to the animals to wake up and join her on the land. The frogs heard her call but were sleepy and slow to join her. The rainbow serpent reached under the earth with her forked tongue and tickled the frogs under their chins. The frogs laughed so loudly that all the other animal spirits came out to see what was going on. The water in the frogs’ stomachs spilled out over the land, filling the valleys and craters the mother spirit had made, forming the lakes, the rivers and the oceans.
The kookaburra heard the laugh of the frogs and tried to imitate it. All he could manage was a very loud and raucous “Goo-gee-gaar-gaar.” It was so loud that it woke up the sun who rose in to the sky to see what the fuss was about.
So the kookaburra created the first day and has greeted the sun every day since then. The rainbow serpent gathered all the animals together and gave them their homes. The kangaroos and emus would live on the plains. The reptiles and snakes would live in the rocks and the birds would live in the trees and travel through the air.
Most animal tribes lived happily and followed the laws the mother had made.They were simple laws and gave everyone the right to hunt and gather food, to be free from enemies and to raise their children in safety. Some animals would not obey the laws and the mother was very angry with them.
She gathered the animals together and called out to the lawbreakers. The Bunyip, who hunted the young of the other tribes, she turned into a water-spirit who would always live alone in gloomy waterways and billabongs. He lives there to this day, hunting the young of people and animals in his watery grave. The other lawbreakers she turned into large rocks.
They stand there even today as a reminder of what happens to those who break the mother’s laws. Finally, the mother changed the tribes into people. To each tribe, she gave a totem animal. The animal she had made them from. She told them that they were not to eat the animal from which they are descended. In memory of where they came from, the kangaroo tribe will not eat kangaroo meat and the snake tribe will not eat their brother snakes.
So, everyone came to live on the land as many different tribes and the rainbow serpent slid back into her cave. She sleeps there today, waiting for the end of the rule of spirit Time so that she may emerge from the earth to create the new dreaming,where all will be one again."
Bender - That comp has actually been closed and drawn.
I didn't win, neither did you.
But early bird tix are available (limited number) for $70, otherwise you're looking at $100.
We simply must have a meetup bender! C'mon - we can't be the only eastern seaboard doofers on this forum...
hmmm fire *grumble*
Last year, there was open fire twirling for an hour. That was it. That was all we got to do. It was very annoying.
At the sametime it was very cool, seeing loads of really good Aus twirling all light up at once, and going hard because we only had an hour. I asked the fire-guys if that was it, and they were pretty admimint (sp?) about us only being about to twirl for an hour. It was really crap.
But it might be different this year, still way worth going. There are a stack of great twirlers there, and the fire performers hired by the Green Art guys, are lush to watch.
It's going to be the first RSF that Josh and I have missed in 3 years I think, which is a bit sad. It's one party that I look forward to all year.
Even it you only get to fire twirl for an hour, it is well worth it, and it is well worth to watch because people put on their best and go hard in that hour.
which city do you need a lift from? Sorry that I can't help you (have a very full car travelling from Sydney), but if you're looking for a ride from Melbourne I beleive there is a Sandal Grrove Tour bus thingy being organised.
Go to the Rainbow Serpent website and click on the Travel tab - that should give you some options.
best of luck!
Totally the most fun of all the large scale doofs in VIC. The setup thsi year was the best i've seen yet.
speaker stacks pointing away from camping, lush decor covering such a huge area, excellent lighting at night, particularly at the market during ott's set.
camped with great mates and got alot out of a very social rainbow serpent.
Muscial Highights for me were COSM, Sun Control, Eat Static, Son Kite & Eegor!
