Does anyone know the name of the bus stop near the festival location? Or maybe even a landmark or something on the route from Welshpool? I'd rather not get lost in a place where the only busses are every two hours...

I would be very grateful, and could give you fuel money and cake.

It is with deep regret and much sadness that we announce PLAY Festival 2008 has been cancelled due to bad weather over last weekend during the Workhouse Festival. The site is no longer habitable and will remain so for the next 8-10 weeks at least.

We have searched high and low for a new venue but at such short notice we have been unable to find anything that is compatible with our requirements, also as we are now (Wednesday 9th July) within 10 working days of the event a new license cannot be arranged in time to ensure the festival takes place on the original dates and remains legal. We have contemplated postponement but to re-arrange six months work in such a short time just isn't feasible at this point due to other peoples commitments.

We thank each and everyone one of you who have contributed to this years festival; be you a ticket buyer, volunteer, crew member, trader or performer. Your heart felt messages are a huge help for us getting through this difficult time. We will be issuing refunds as soon as possible and the shop is now closed.

On a brighter note, we are planning to hold one or two smaller events later this year and early next year to raise funds towards 2009's festival. If you have any suggestions for location, events or anything else feel free to get in touch via the contact page.

Dunc, Rob and the rest of the Play team.

So sorry to hear about this, I know every person planning to go will be absolutely gutted about this, but the amount of work you guys will have put in to this event only to have it canned at the last minute must be awful.

I was at the Workhouse festival last year, it had rained heavily and the site was indeed a swamp - if the same has happened this year, I can fully appreciate the reasons for cancelling.

Chins up, hugs all round and let's make sure 2009 is a special one.

Right, now who's going to be the first to organise an non-event party wink

I'm wondering if all the people that have booked plane tickets etc will still be coming anyway so they don't waste the plane ticket price... if there are a few of you, we are in South Wales, which isn't so far from the festival site and was wondering if you'd like us to look into finding a campsite we can go to for the duration of the time you would be here to have a small meet up instead.... I know it's not the same as a festival but it might be a nice chilled holiday and save a wasted plane fare... maybe?

There is no way we can find spaces for 200 odd people! biggrin

We will look at campsites round here and see how many they can take and at what price.

Other than that.. how about the Bristol Juggling convention site? biggrin ubblove
I'm sure they could take an impromptu HOP meet up event.. if they are not already fully booked up and want to take on a large group. Bristol is fairly easy to get to from lots of places by train, road or air smile

note: 200 people will probably be too much for us to deal with as well, unless we get REALLY organised, which lets face it is unlikely for a bunch of hippies wink

I was just chatting to Cantus about this (in fact I'm on the phone to said fraggle as we speak), and we'd be up for doing something.......

I've taken 2 weeks off work anyways, so we'll definitely be around!

I was looking forward to meeting loads of peoples too.
