I am new to fire poi. I want to order a set, but it needs to be very light in weight. Does anyone have any Ideas or pictures of really bright and light in weight fire poi? Thanks

Whilst making them yourself would give you ultimate customization over the outcome of your poi - I was a little too worried to create my very first set of fire poi by myself, in case I did it wrong. (And I didn't know anyone locally who could show me).

I purchased some single-headed cathedral poi here from HoP. The flames are impressive, and the poi are petty light and very easy to use. Bought them about a year ago, and they;re still burning brightly after a considerably amount of use.

I recommend them!!

If you want smaller flames or slightly lighter variants (though the cath ones are nicely weighted), then one of these might be suitable for you:

I prefer ball chains (or oval chains) for fire poi.

If you do make your own, make sure that the chain is sturdy.

You don't want flaming poi-heads flying into the audience!!

Skatto's suggestions are good.

The best way to 'lighten up' is by losing unnecessary weight in the chain. Ball chain is much lighter than most other chains. I had a set with cable wire too for a while and they were good... easy to untangle if you need to in a hurry (just drop one of the poi and they untangle themselves) and although it looks thin they were very strong. Don;t think HoP does them though. And HoP products are very reliably good.

Cathedral heads don't have a wooden/metal core inside the wick so that is as light as you will get. Monkey fists don't either but tend to have a lot of wick and therefore soak up more fuel.

redface awwwwww, Gnor....

maliceinwonderland - you should Live Messenger us some time to discuss. The recommendation depends on specifically why you want light - there's always pro's and con's with each type and hard to say outright that you should get firehead "x"...

Good luck!
George

I have several large jars of the stuff. I actually like it... a little. And don't tell anyone I admitted to it.
