I find I need the bounce to help re-accelerate the poi after a spiral as pulling on the chains to get the poi going again is kinda hard on the hands so I do a sort of "yoink" motion with that transition to move from wall to ceiling plane.
The only "problem" I have with spirals is....sometimes I end up with the hot eyebolt sitting on top of my index finger and if I've committed myself to changing planes with my spiral, then it can result in a nastier burn that just bouncing them back into wallplane.
