This just made me smile:

 Written by: article

NEW YORK - Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall.

After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members.

She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."

"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.

She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards. "Falling in love can blind us to an extent," Rowling said of Dumbledore's feelings, adding that Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down."

Dumbledore's love, she observed, was his "great tragedy."

"Oh, my god," Rowling concluded with a laugh, "the fan fiction."

Noo, you beat me to it haha. I just read the same article. What I want to know is why does everyone seem so surprised? I mean, really. And also! I showed this article to my mum just to see how she would react and she went totally mental and is trying to form a petition to ban the Harry Potter books from all the city and school libraries in the county. WTF.

lmao... I just checked the AOL forums for funny opinions, but the usual bible-bashers (bashing others with the bible and bashing bible readers, both) aren't that original today. I liked this one however:

"Is she sure about this? From one gay man to another
that brother needs a shave and a hair cut
I thought only straight men had such poor grooming habits."

"vices are like genitals - most are ugly to behold, and yet we find that our own are dear to us."

She was being serious? Why was Dumbledore gay? What was the point?

I don't think he *needs* to have a sexual orientation. It plays no significant part in the story what-so-ever (is it even *in* the actual story? aside from the little quips she's now referring to?) and it seems like this is an afterthought thrown in for marketing (not that she needs it) or PR.

i would have changed ***** to phallus, and claire to petey Petey

Rougie: but that's what I'm doing here
Arnwyn: what letting me adjust myself in your room?..don't you dare quote that on HoP...

That seems highly unfeasable to me. For one thing, how does a gay dumbledore make any more money?

Gay, straight, bi... hardly makes a difference once the book is written.

"What was the point?"

I don't neccessarily believe there has to be a point. I mean... when I'm writing, I develop characters before I write about them, a histroy, whatever. Its all premediatated. As far as I'm aware, JK did the same thing. Had it all figured out before she put pen to paper.

So she may have decided Dumbledore was gay loooong ago, but didn't bother to go into details about it.

I mean, I was on the way home on a train, and a grandad was reading HP to a little girl. I doubt she'd go into any details about gay relationships in a story that is designed for little kids. But that doesn't mean she can create her own character depths.

The existance of flamethrowers says that someone, somewhere, at sometime said "I need to set that thing on fire, but it's too far away."

As someone who writes as well I totally get where she is coming from....

When you create a character you get to know them so much more intricately than even some of your closest friends and family. You know their whole life history even if you don't put it into what you are writing.

So for her to get to know Dumbledore she had to know his sexual orientations.

Why she felt the need to tell people I have no idea....

You mean the excessive hair ont he face doesn't do it for you???

I'm shocked! hehehee

Or maybe in the wizarding world the straight ones have the good grooming habits and the homosexual ones are the scruffy, unkempt ones....

Let's be honest, all those top wizards went to public school and were locked up in separate dorms through most of their teenage years. And they didn't even have rugby to get rid of some of the physical tension. And looking at the girls, you seem to get about 2 or 3 decent ones per year, and the rest are all absolutely useless.
Did Voldemort ever have a girlfriend, or was Malfoy Senior his plaything, what do you think? ("He played with the snake most of the time" is not an acceptable answer for too many reasons to list)

yeah, there's no point, and no it's not inculded in the story... but when you know the story as well as i do, it makes sence... and jk has released alot of extra details about other characters over the years that're not included in the story...

like the others said, it's just that she has a deep relationship with her characters, you'd want to hope so since that's probably just about all she's been thinking about for the last 20 years.... some stuff's just not relevant to the story so it's not in there, but if a fan asks the question why shouldn't she answer it?

Well she could have made that up anyways in order to promote gay lib... which I think is a good thing. But certainly some (conservative) parents now have an aftermath... ubblol

Ahh yeah but how much uproar was over the books in the first place....

I mean the only people who are more than likely getting up in arms over this latest bit of information are more than likely the same small minded people who complained about the books when they were first released...

(the ones who were saying it was promoting black magic and taking people away from a certain type of religious faith! - I mean let's face it they are not exactly accepting of people's differing sexual orientations as well!)
