This is where dirty raver terminology collides with efficient poi terminology.

I dont quite know how to describe it.

The poi both spin the same direction, one in front of your body, the other behind your head... you move your hands rythmically and symetrically to keep them making a circle with you in the middle of them.

Someone oughtta teach me to speak poi, i feel so dumb. xD

OK, more on the circles.

One hand makes a full extension in any direction in wallplane (let us say right and anti-clockwise from your view). The other (left in the example) spins so as to keep the (left) poi head near the hand doing the long arm for the top part of the spin (so also anti-clockwise in wall-plane for this example).

Once the (right) poi drops to about horizontal you try to get the poi heads to coincide at the bottom of the circle.

This works well enough, but I have been trying to swap which hand does the longarm part after a rotation. It can also be done in out of a weave (so, in wheelplane), which I think I actually saw Ronan doing in one of his vids and liked, so I played with it. smile

Like I say, not hard to do, but can be pretty ugly if done badly.

Ill get it down.

Im SUPER proud of the turnover behind my back...

I seen a video a long time ago of someone who could 3 beat all the way around his body... in a continuous circle from front to back then to front again.

It was gorgeous, and while i dont understand the arm movement from memory, im gonna expiriment till i get it

Hmm, I havent contributed to this thread methinks. I am cleaning up two moves Im super happy to have learned:

-same time reel throws into hand switches. I guess its not super hard, but practicing in all directions has led to some beautiful setups for hybrid weaving.

- Weaving wallplane :: Right poi released under Left arm :: Left poi continues another rotation and then catch the thrown poi handle and go to a one-handed weave :: Release the poi on the pinky side :: whipcatch :: catch the poi with Right hand and continue weaving the world away. smile

Interesting...

I lack the coordination for catches i think.

like anything else, its just tons of practice. I think the biggest help I had for those is just learning WHERE everything is. Where the handle will be on a thrown rotation; where my hand will be; where to tangle the poi on whipcatch; etc.

I got my inspiration from playing with juggling, meteor, and some tuts by Ronan on tosses.

Also, for catches, are you using handles?

Im very used to just bare shoelaces, maybe a catch would be easier with something to, you know catch?

TO HANDLES, AWAY!!!

Ugh, i despise hyperloops.

Not because they arent gorgeous, they are...

Only because i hurt myself every time i try them. xD

Gratz though.

Darken:
I do use catch handles. I dont even bother with loops anymore. Monkey fists, wood balls, juggling club end caps, all sorts of things. Right now Im enjoying an idea from Alienjon: the rubber endcaps you would use on furniture legs. They come in small enough sizes for your hand and you just bore out a hole, string through it, and tie a large enough knot/nut/washer/whatever that it wont slip out. Its a cheaper version of the juggling club handles that Ronan uses on his poi.

Richee:
very cool. I can actually manage a continuous horizontal hyperloop, but the wrist wraps included sound very intruiging. Is it done purely for a directional change and can you wrap while twisted, then switch which hand is on top so that the hyperloop doesn't immediately untangle?

Exactly, the way like this:

tangle -> twist <-> wrist <-> wrist ! <-> wrist <- >twist -> untangle
tangle -> twist <-> wrist <-> wrist ! <-> twist -> tangle
tangle -> twist <-> wrist ! <-> twist -> untangle

nice combo,

I played a bif mor with these 'hyperloop tangles'.

Upon the previos routime I've found:

Code:tangle -> twist <-> wrist <-> wrist ! <-> twist <->

into

Code:twist <-> wrist ! -> untangle

But then I've found, that if I want the routine
to be closed routine circle I need to add extra
degree in the start to create routine loop:

Code:tangle (d4) -> ( wrist <-> twist twist ) !

The twist-twist part can be done both
outside and buzzsaw.

--------------

The creating of continual routine
is interesting, because the 4 de-
gree tangle entrance is only en-
trance.

Hmm been a while since i was on here... Been getting my antispin nailed, lots of antispin and goofy flowers with turns.. Love the one where your poi go from fw to bw buzzsaw with your arms doing split time opposites.. Lovely.
One hand butterfly wristwrapping into one hand weave.. One hand weave turns. And working on one hand windmill.

Horizontal cateye line isolation, (Theoretically it can be infinite)

I've gotten a few rotations off.

Or is it a 1:1 ratio antispin flower with point isolated "petals" at either side?

Has anyone tried this as just a 1:1 ratio flower? Essentially the same number of beats without the line iso? I'm waiting on the darkness to see what it looks like with light trails right now I have no idea...
