I just bought fuzzy orange poi on a nylon cord since I'm just learning, right? Well, I need to shorten the cord about an inch and a half and by the looks of it, I have to untie the cord. I'm afraid that if I untie the cord, I wont be able to get it this tight again. any alternatives? I feel like a tool asking, but I need to know.

Have you tried tying a knot in the cord to shortern them to the correct length?

You want the head of the poi in your armpit, when the handles are at the end of your fingers for the correct length.

I never thought of that. It wouldnt even tangle, would it.
Its just a little bit too long for me, that or I have really short arms.

The other easy way is just to wrap the cord round your hand, and pinch it between your forefinger and thumb to spin. Or have it come out between your forefinger and middle finger. A lot of spinners do that rather than use handles anyway as the less play in the system the finer your wrist control can be.

it's worth sticking with it smile
Holding your poi like you hold a key is a very common habit of people who have a high level of control over their poi

new fingers? ewww.

I got blisters when I did it that with the cords. It works better, but I really only do it with socks or chains that don't have something burning at the end

I meant I suck at the whole poi thing, but I only do it at night when not many people can see me.
I dont have the money to buy new ones(saving to buy a car), and dont suggest making my own, because I'm imcompetent when it comes to making stuff.
I wants socks, somehow they just look easier to spin.

all you do is put a bag of rice/sand/popcorn into a sock then tie the end closed. only difficult part would be making them the same length but thats not too hard.

go to target walmart kmart, find knee highs, go to the sports department and find tennis balls, buy these two things, stick tennis balls in socks, (debatable-tie knot at heel), now commence spinning

find tennis balls

eek
Nooooooooooooo!
For the love of god nooooooooooo!
My eeeeeeeeyes!

Tennis balls are simply not heavy enough, and they *really* hurt when they hit you as they are light, and go fast!
Just go for millet/seed filled juggling balls in the socks. You will find its MUCH nicer to spin with.

If you cant get any juggling balls, use a balloon filled with rice.
If you cant find a balloon, use a bit of fabric with some thread at the top to stop the contents from being expelled.
If you cant find any thread, use your hair.
If you dont have any hair, I'll call you "baldy baldy slaphead" and go "squeak squeak squeak" as I pretend to polish your hairless head.

Ahem....

Go Millet/Rice smile

The only good thing about tennis balls in socks is the "pock" sound they make as they rebound out your eye socket.
(Or taking them out and playing tennis)
