Do fat people spin? ive looked at a lot of youtube vids, and pics, and the like and have yet to see a fellow fat guy spinning. Am i a minority in this community. Granted im sure its harder for us to move around the (in my case staff) object and we lack the flexability of you "Skinnies" but whats the deal? Us fatties need to unite.

The thing is the more you spinn the less fat you become. I have seen some amazing transformations in body shapes of spinners as they progress. Our group has it's share of self proclaimed fat old spinners, and they can rock it!

I've seen a few videos with some pretty hefty glowstickers, I don't really recall any with fire though... Technique is definatly more important than flexibility

I count myself in the group of overweight spinners. I doubt if I'll ever do any of the behind the back moves but I have a blast!

that's not strictly true, as anyone who knows me will know!

What're you looking at?
I assume you're being rhetorical?

I'm not agreeing with the whole "fat spinners lose weight" vibe going on.

I like to eat, spinning makes me hungry, therefore i eat more. Simple biggrin

your crazy "exercise makes you thin" logic doesn't work here. Exercise makes you hungry biggrin

Who said anything about a theory? I have personally whitnessed people do it. One I saw probably lost over 80 lbs over a few years, it was amazing.

Granted you have to actually spin regularly, not just once in a while.

True exercise makes you hungry, but if you eat in a ballanced fashon you'll still loose weight. Exercise pumps up your metabolism for a few hours. If you eat right to fuel the machine, the machine will trim it'self down. smile

Not that you have to strive for thinness. But I would encourage you to spinn for health and happiness. smile

I'm what most people (ya skinny bastages!) here would consider overweight, but I've been living the whole "spinning is thinning" experience. I generally spin for an hour or two every day, and since I started I've just generally had a complete turnaround in my weight, excercise habits and eating habits.

But since my weight is...er..well distributed for a female shape...I DO have some problems with a bunch of moves because my hips and front-bits tend to get in the way. I just have to learn to contory myself properly.

Though darn-it my round shoulders I have are getting in the way of some contact moves I'm working on. Luckily the muscles there are starting to finally develop.

Why is it that fat people cant do BTB as a few have mentioned? I'm only askin cause i'm overweight, but i'm gona do BTB soon i know and not because of weight loss although it will be gladly welcomed. The only thing that haults the flow of me BTB is the poi's hit my thighs but i think that this is because i aint wigglin my body enough because i can cross my hands BTB easy as!

Any thoughts? Is wigglin more an option or do i need to lose some thigh? I've been told that if i can cross my hands BTB then i can do the weave, this true?

NICE ONE!

Heal the world by introducing someone to flow..

I think it depends on the KIND of overweight you are. My boyfriend is short and stocky, with a very firm muscle/fat/muscle structure, meaning he can't do ANY BTB at all. His arms physically cannot move in such a way to get behind him. He's not enormously overweight either, that's just the way his build has him locked in. Goodness knows he's tried, he's the one that started me spinnning.

I'm softer and more flexible, with longer arms and legs, so I just have to work out the annoyances of wiggling my hips and bottom out of the way.

I think it may be more about technique and very seldom about body size or shape for BTB stuff.

I'm VERY inflexible yet after 8 years of spinning my freinds are amazed at how I seem to be made of rubber when performing.

Yet, when I go to the gym for an assessment, they still use a measuring tape to record the distance between my fingers and the slide I'm supposed to push, and write down a NEGATIVE NUMBER on the flexibility chart! smile

Try shortening and lengthening the poi length, and remember, BTB is the movement of the poi, so different people may be able to achieve the same movement of poi with DIFFERENT movements of their body...

Sorry if I sound like a nag, but if a school clutz like me can make a living from circus arts, and actually be good on occassion, then your boyfriend can do BTB moves, he just needs to practice and try ways that work for him...
