Posted:Hey...

I was wondering how many different kind of possibilities there are to really study firearts besides online communities and videos and some festivals/workshops? I know there is/was a "school" in Italy offering something like 4 week workshops on firearts with accomodation and "top teachers". But that's pretty much the only one that I've heard of. I'm not saying that this one would be the best one if someone wants to go professional. I'm just interested in how many schools teach firearts or what kind of possibilities there are for people who would want to become professional fireperformers. Right now it seems that one can study dance, circus/acrobatics and martial arts to support their firearts but that's it... But I don't know. Educate me.

I've been sorta asked to teach firearts in a few circus-schools in Finland later this year but I'm not sure if it'll happen. But it would be cool especially if it would be long term and not just a few workshops.

I only know that they teach feicha (chinese contact staff) and meteors in chinese circus schools. Also I guess a good career move would be to become 20 years younger and move to Canada or somewhere to join a baton twirling group.

I'm sure there are many people or groups around the world who deserve honorable mentions for teaching and giving regular workshops, so list them here also if you know any. www.uberevents.org ?

okay so as long as we're imagining things, you might want to check out Temple of Poi in California, run by GlitterGirl. I myself am not a fan, but judge for yourself

it'll happen, though.

Samoan fireknife dancing is cool. Another recommendation: move to Samoa!

Once you have the perfromance part dialed in you can entertain an audinece with a candle if you wish. That will also allow you to invent original fire spinning performances. Do some strength and flexability training too. smile

Yes there was and there still is a fire arts school here in Italy, in Firenze (Florence) in the region of Tuscany. It is around an hour and a half by train from where I live, My self and Rob applied to be teachers there when they started but never got in, Donia later said that they the "First Teachers" stayed there and the guest teachers for the second year never happened oh well turns out I'm living just up the road now anyway!! smile

poid pois

The Old HoP thread about it.

The launch of the first poi convention here in Italy will take place this May 2007 too.

Italy hold juggling / European Juggling Conventions and also annual Street Artist Festivals.

Thriving juggling and poi scene in Italy!... all good. ubbrollsmile

Green Top is a circus school, not a fire school. and tbh the course is more about performance than circus skills, though there are lots learnt, there is not much specialising, as far as i'm aware - wicked course, just not relevant here.

the fire arts school website is very nicely put together, it just has no info on it frown and i've never heard anything about it since 2004...?

Uber is not just UK, Tom - we have held masterclasses in Australia (and again this year), Scotland, Austria and Paris coming up in June. plus Uberteachers have taught all over the world smile

I'm hoping to have an Uber residential at some point soon. probably next year. one month of training (6 days a week, officially), learning(skills, performance technique (including dance and some clowning), with performances and things included, for about 10 people. 2 FT and several PT teachers.
anyone interested...? still no firm plans, but it'd be nice to know if there's any interest.

smile
