HOP now automatically embeds youtube!!!!!

what you have to do is create a proper reply, click on 'URL' in the Instant UBB Code section, and paste your youtube url into both the url and title boxes...

thats this url (the one with the arrow pointing at it), not the one from the browser bar....

youtube1

enjoy smile

hmmm, gave it a go then, still embedded. also, embedding of my first two videos in my thread is turned off, the video comes up, but when play is pressed, it says 'the use has chosen to not allow this video to be embedded, click here' or something like that.

p.s. not wanting to sound like im complaining.. just thought id let you know smile

incidentally, the best way i've found to get the actual url of something you like and want to share is to quote the post that contains that video, then copy and paste. is there a better way?

hmmm, to clarify.. it doesnt matter which URL you use. you can use the one from the address bar (up the top of the screen) and it works perfectly

to *not* show a video however, you have to remove the "https://www." part so its just "youtube.com/etc"

I realised how to link to a video, and keep it as a clickable link that you name yourself, you just need to insert a variable after the ? with normal address notation. Don't worry, example to follow for all you lovely non webgeeks smile

(space added before the = to stop the url= becoming a link, so you can see)

eg : [url =https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OwUFh_Fbp4]this text wont be shown because of the video being embeded[/url]

becomes: [url =https://www.youtube.com/watch?foo=0&v=3OwUFh_Fbp4]this text WILL show as a normal HoP link[/url]

proof : Enjoy the Hyperlight Video

this can also be done when you want to just drop a quick link in without the URL tags

https://www.youtube.com/watch?foo=0&v=3OwUFh_Fbp4

HoP will convert it to a link with the same text as the URL, and youtube will just ignore the foo=0 completely.

so the addition to break the auto embedding (foo=0& in the example) starts immediately after the ? give the variable any alphabetical name (foo was the example anything from the alphabet works, one character or more) = 0 (a value, again anything works) and importantly an ampersand (&)before the actual video id (the v= bit at the end of all youtube video urls)

I hope that's decipherable to those that wish to link rather than embed smile

putting [url =youtube.com/watch?v=3OwUFh_Fbp4]mylink[/url]

gives a broken link to "https://www.homeofpoi.com/ubbthreads/youtube.com/watch?v=3OwUFh_Fbp4"

though. (as without the https://
it ends up relative to current directory on the server)

and just

doesn't create a link at all as the bbcode link parser is seeking https://
or www.

hence my post above hug

aha, my mistake.. what you do, is remove the 'www.' but keep the 'https://' smile

ie. [ url=https://youtube.com/watch?v=NJz02Nh99Cs]testing testing[/url] produces testing testing

What's happening?

I notice a lot of (my) links, instead of embedded vids lately... anything not working or new procedure we should know about?

confused

[edit) Problem solved. LTC made me aware that due to my regional settings of youtube, the links always contain a country coding ahead of the url (like .uk or .de) and looks something like this:

https://de.youtube.com/watch?v=K_Amkphd9Mo

https://de.

This way it doesn't embed - it needs to be in this fashion:

https://www.

if you got regional settings on youtube (upper right button "site" needs to be set to "global" or they will add country abbreviations to all URLs) you need to copy the URL and manually exchange ".dk .uk .pl .de" (or whatever your extension is) with "www." or the video won't embed.

Does anyone know if HoP can / will be able to embed videos from juggling-specific video hosting websites? (e.g. juggling.tv). Looks like the ones that have sprung up are here to stay so may be worth the (undoubtedly considerable) effort?

I haven't tried using the 'embed' code from these sites in posts as I'm guessing it's for embedding into websites and not UBB, but please let me know if I should.

(I did a search, but I haven't been around for a while so I might have missed some obvious developments)

Thanks in advance

p.s. sorry if this double-posts as the last attempt hanged

hazephase, they updated the way of embedding...

Now don't panick, just follow the lead

If you make a new thread or "switch to full reply screen" you come to a menu - do that for a second now...
the button is under the "Quick reply" entry window (just below every last post in the thread)

are you there?

On the left you see categories

"Subject"
"Posting icon" and
"Post".................... followed by a smiley, a globe, an envelope, a funny little picture and a monitor - it's the 5th icon (later coming three horizontal lines etc)

direct your cursor over the monitor

it says "enter a media tag"

*click* and the dropdown menu gives you options: to embed Google, Myspace, Yahoo and YouTube.

click and enter the URL (adress of the video as it appears in either the adress bar on the top of your browser (in youtube you have two options "URL" and "embed" - choose the URL) when prompted

click OK

there you go smile

Guys why are there no video tutorials on how to handle this board? wink

All you need to do on full screen reply is place you video URL copy and paste into the video widget when you select youtube video and voila! smile
