I'd heard this before, but never realised, in Shpongle's Divine Moments of Truth, I'd always thought the whistling noise was some kind of pipe instrument, seems it was Tuvan throat singers.

Just amazing... the guy producing the wistle on the right doesn't seem to make any normal kind of flat lipped whistle embouchure, and certainly no puckered lips to produce the sound.

it's Tuvan throat singing so I can see how it would be similar.. wink

clearler view that there's no normal 'whistle' mouth shape (flat or puckered) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeWK_4LgKUg

I learnt today some (one?) of the shpongle guys formed a part of 'Younger Brother' and did a very good shpongle-style albumn, there's another called OTT (with an album called Blumenkraft) that's also similar, apparently OTT did the sound production on Are you Shpongled.

If you guys like those, check out Yat-Kha and Albert Kuvezin. They take popular Classic Rock type songs and throat sing them. I've got one of their albums, and its great. My fave songs are ramblin man, exodus, and orgasmatron. Its intense.

Quite right! Blumenkraft is excellent, psychedelic dub, and the Younger Brother album (it's called Flock of Bleeps) starts off as chilled psychedelic downbeat, and progresses on to harder trance by the end. It's also totally wicked.

OTT also has another album, "Hallucinogen in Dub", which is remixes of Hallucinogen tracks, yup, you guessed it, done in a dub style. And, trivia fans, Hallucinogen is none other than Simon Posford, from Shpongle and Younger Brother. Anything Simon Posford does is brilliant. smile

Younger Brother opened the Origin Stage at Glade last year, and Shpongle and OTT played back to back in the Liquid tent.

Took me day or two, just need to perfect it.
Though I had a headstart with the breathing work, we'd done all of the breathing exercises in youth theatre, and I'd gotten some of the tongue positions from phonology.

there are tuvan singer workshops at confest... i groan that it is referred to as shpongle singing.

it's similar to calling firetwirling 'that thing that baton twirlers do with fire'..

yus yus psy-ambient / psy dub is cary varied - a lot of good work in recent years has come from france.
