Hello everyone and welcome to PLAY FESTIVAL 2007!!

Please forgive me for the lack of info, I have no computer to use and it'll be a few weeks more until I'm able to update it more often. I'll come back and put more up as and when I can.

Hopefully most of this info you'll have gotten from our newsletter, if not sign up to it on the website now! www.playfestival.co.uk

We had a wonderful 5 days last year and can only say that 2007 will be even better!

Thanks to everyone who came last year and who gave us feedback on what they thought of the festival, we've taken all comments on board and hope we can make the festival one that you'll enjoy even more than the last.

The dates for this years festival will be Wednesday 25th - Sunday 29th July and we will be at the same venue, Fordhall Farm in Market Drayton, Shropshire. The tickets will be £35 in advance and £40 on the door, that will include most workshops, 4 nights camping, the shows and other entertainments during the festival

We have lots planned for this years festival, more areas to play in with the emphasis on getting everyone involved, we will have a proper go at the world record after last years attempt didn't go so well (although it does look awesome on video!!!) and of course the usual abundance of workshops to keep you all busy in the day.

We'll have two stages this year, the main stage/tent and and nice little caberet tent, a solar powered cinema, a PROPER bar & food tent and a few more folks selling the stuff you want to buy (even if you don't realise it yet! heheh)

New for this year will be the PLAY HOP Amateur Performance of the year. It's a little competition we've come up with that can be entered by anyone for any type of performance. No more than 4 minutes long with a cash prize for the winner and the chance to feature on the next PLAY DVD. As you might guess from the title the event is sponsored by HomeofPoi.com (who have proudly given us the prizes for our games over the last two years). More details will follow soon...

The DVD of last years festival will be out at some point, probably exactly at the time we plan it to come out wink Focusing more on spreading knowledge to learn the arts than the last DVD and we're sure it'll knock your socks off!

If you want to contact us about anything please email us at one of the following addresses:

info@playfestival.co.uk

comments@playfestival.co.uk

volunteers@playfestival.co.uk

traders@playfestival.co.uk

If anyone wants specific footage from last years festival please wait until after the DVD is out, Strugz & co are busy enough editing the full thing to start making cuts for people! Thanks smile

As my internet access is sporadic at best till my pc is up and running, I might not be able to reply to email straight away, if you want to talk to me about anything call me on 07814 018091 and if you don't get an answer LEAVE A VOICEMAIL!

Keep checking the website for the latest information and we'll send out newsletters as often as we can.

hugs & smiles

oh and... have you thought about letting people put their business cards in with the play leaflet for a small fee? could be a great way of making a bit more money. its only an idea though, and people could always have the option of taking them too so they are not loaded with crap they don't want.
*also would like to know about a trading pitch price just incase things work out*

And one for the techy people, so they don't have to keep saying "Err. I dunno. I just plug things into other things." (Except for the people who want to plug things into other things. Hope this didn't come across as too crude, but that's geeks for you).

Not as yet...There's going to be "Crew" shirts, for people to answer questions like "Help my tents on fire - can you help" and "Where's the exit" etc.
Then there'll be "I went to Play 2007 and all I got was this lousy t-shirt and lots of pegs" t-shirts (not literal wording wink).
Bascially this should clear up any confusion such-as
"The main tent is about to fall over - can you help?"
"No, but I can teach you a hula-hoop matrix"
smile

As for "Teacher" t-shirts - everyone's a teacher at Play, so that'd be a lot of freebies wink

[This is the current train of thought anyway)

i think i missed your point

you just said there was two types fof shirts, crew shirts, and buy me shirts.

So last year when i was walking round in a crew shirt, teaching, that was fine, but when the teachers (and im not having a go) where asked crew questions, they didn't know, and said, go find the guy with *insert description of a hippie spinning that matched 90% of the ppl at play last year* in a yellow shirt with crew on the back, and he can help you.

So what i would suggest is that (and this goes back to other stuff i was on about last year, which i would rather talk about in pm's and no in public) that there was confsuion last year between teachers, doing an hour or two(in some cases more i know that) teaching, and wore a crew shirt, when there where crew killing themselves for the weekend, not looking any different, and not being approached with teh right questions.

Like a big crowd of people standing round them in a circle learning stuff? wink

Personally I don't see why workshop teachers need a t-shirt... If they're running a specific workshop, then it'll say where and when, and the teacher should identify themselves at the workshop. Outside that workshop, the teacher is just a normal punter (most of the time) and so doesn't really need to know lots of stuff.

But moreover, there's also the issue of making 3 or 4 different kinds of t-shirts, cos to be honest if you're wearing a non-souvenir t-shirt you're going to be asked stuff regardless as most people will assume you know everything smile

So solution: People involved in organising stuff - who know most info (or if they don't, they at least know the right person to ask) will have crew t-shirts. Chances are, the people rigging the lighting will know when the show starts (they're doing the lighting), know where the exit is and know what to do incase of fire.
If you're not in a position to know this stuff, you won't have a Crew shirt smile

But as I mentioned, we're still looking into this anyway, so keep the thoughts coming

Have the t-shirt colours been decided yet?

That's obviously the most important thing to consider when thinking about offering to volunteer - will I end up wearing a hideously coloured t-shirt? tongue

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Bov: Following on from Strugz's Gay-Play theme for this year (ooops, was I meant to let out the secret?) - the crew T's are going to be pink - with nice a powder-blue Play logo.

The souvenir t's have been scrapped in fact, instead you get shiny gold hot pants, with PLAY written in diamanté sequins across the ass.
