Hello everyone and welcome to PLAY FESTIVAL 2007!!

Please forgive me for the lack of info, I have no computer to use and it'll be a few weeks more until I'm able to update it more often. I'll come back and put more up as and when I can.

Hopefully most of this info you'll have gotten from our newsletter, if not sign up to it on the website now! www.playfestival.co.uk

We had a wonderful 5 days last year and can only say that 2007 will be even better!

Thanks to everyone who came last year and who gave us feedback on what they thought of the festival, we've taken all comments on board and hope we can make the festival one that you'll enjoy even more than the last.

The dates for this years festival will be Wednesday 25th - Sunday 29th July and we will be at the same venue, Fordhall Farm in Market Drayton, Shropshire. The tickets will be £35 in advance and £40 on the door, that will include most workshops, 4 nights camping, the shows and other entertainments during the festival

We have lots planned for this years festival, more areas to play in with the emphasis on getting everyone involved, we will have a proper go at the world record after last years attempt didn't go so well (although it does look awesome on video!!!) and of course the usual abundance of workshops to keep you all busy in the day.

We'll have two stages this year, the main stage/tent and and nice little caberet tent, a solar powered cinema, a PROPER bar & food tent and a few more folks selling the stuff you want to buy (even if you don't realise it yet! heheh)

New for this year will be the PLAY HOP Amateur Performance of the year. It's a little competition we've come up with that can be entered by anyone for any type of performance. No more than 4 minutes long with a cash prize for the winner and the chance to feature on the next PLAY DVD. As you might guess from the title the event is sponsored by HomeofPoi.com (who have proudly given us the prizes for our games over the last two years). More details will follow soon...

The DVD of last years festival will be out at some point, probably exactly at the time we plan it to come out wink Focusing more on spreading knowledge to learn the arts than the last DVD and we're sure it'll knock your socks off!

If you want to contact us about anything please email us at one of the following addresses:

info@playfestival.co.uk

comments@playfestival.co.uk

volunteers@playfestival.co.uk

traders@playfestival.co.uk

If anyone wants specific footage from last years festival please wait until after the DVD is out, Strugz & co are busy enough editing the full thing to start making cuts for people! Thanks smile

As my internet access is sporadic at best till my pc is up and running, I might not be able to reply to email straight away, if you want to talk to me about anything call me on 07814 018091 and if you don't get an answer LEAVE A VOICEMAIL!

Keep checking the website for the latest information and we'll send out newsletters as often as we can.

hugs & smiles

Dunc hug

Anybody want to help me with something?

A friend in the USA wants to send me some LED double staffs... and I need an address for him to send them to. An address... an address of somebody WHO WILL BE COMING TO PLAY! Yes! Somebody RICH and BEAUTIFUL. Somebody who knows how to make RAW VEGAN RICEBURGERS and who's NOT AFRAID TO SHOW THEIR TRUE FEEL...

Oh, whoops, getting a little sillytracked there.

Ahem. How about just the first bits? Somebody who can bring the double staffs to Play???

Fair point.

But he also said "Coming to Play" in the same sentance... Didn't we ban rich beautiful people coming to Play this year?

(With the exception of 2Bags of course)

no we didnt ban them, they just have more sence than to come and sit in a field with loads of hippie, whos whole day consists of how to bend, push, spin, throw, and isolate things around.

nick, i assume you have an address to send stuff to, so while i would offer, i assume you are sorted smile

I reckon anyone receiving money for goods or services on site can be classed as trading and will need a trading permit from the Play organisers...

Back to more serious issues - this is indeed the case.
Even if you're just selling things "Off the back of a van" - you still need to get a traders permit. This is a matter of fairness - anyone caught selling items without a traders permit will be asked to purchase one there-and-then or leave the site. Otherwise lots of people will get upset, not least the traders who've paid the fee and whose business you're stealing without having paid to compete.

HyperJon - Not sure about pre-orders, 'cos I'm not sure what status Hyperlights are at in terms of readiness. If you're taking sales then probably you need a permit. Or not... bloody grey areas ubblol

Come on guys - this traders thing is kinda full on
Even at most festivals and the BristolJC which has been running many years - your'e allowed to fly pitch, either by purchasing minimal fee licence or without charge (I usually donate some kit to the Olympics at BJC)
Whilst I can understand that you need to keep the traders sweet, its not as though there was a plethora of 'illegal' traders' last year. If theres a few people that have some specialised kit that other people want, I hardly see the harm in an exchange of goods and paper thanks occuring.
I admire your dedication to this festival and all the hard work youve put in - but I feel as though youre taking this point to the Nth degree - personally (and yes I am biased!!;)) wink

All I was thinking of doing was taking down names and email addresses from people who'd like to be one of the first 250 people to own a pair of HyperLights. They're not ready yet, but I'm still on target for my October release date...

It does seem a little harsh though (Firenix) to suggest that some traders should have to pay £150 for the privilege when some can get away with it for free. If you (durbs, dunc etc.) don't think I should be signing people up there, I will respect your decision and refrain. Just let me know what you decide smile

Actually after re-reading Durb's post i'd like to make an adjustment to my post

"anyone caught selling items without a traders permit will be asked to purchase one there-and-then or leave the site"..." and "If you're taking sales then probably you need a permit"

- Thats just bloody stupid.

So youre saying that if I sell one FireWhip that no-one else is selling, or HyperLights takes an order for an item that no-one else can even make - youre gonna kick us off site if we dont pay £150?! - Thats both unrealistic, unfair and un-hippy!! and whilst I understand the un-hippy bit - you do need to make this festival financially viable so that future generations of HOP-ers can enjoy - You arent 'Mean Fiddler' Productions, who have so ruined Glasters with their brand of Corperate festival rape (OOOooohhh - controversial and in no ways meant to equate with you - I just dont like them!!)

So please a little common sense and 'brotherly (and sisterly...and alienerly!!) love' here guys.

I dont want to take the piss by selling loads of kit - just the odd whip, that people cant get anywhere else. HyperLights will probably be battering them off with a stick - all the people that want Hyper's and what about the workshops where there may be a small fee for materials (as I read earlier in this thread). I tell you what - I'm gonna run a Fire Whip selling workshop, just after my Whip cracking workshop!! wink - (oh and Durbs - I'll be doing a Whip cracking workshop by the way! - where do I go to get that put down?)

Im really not wanting to be an arse about this - just making a point - so dont know one take it personally

OOooo - personal

To clarify they were auctioned as part of our (all to small) performance fee.

I really dont think its the done thing to plaster personal transactions on this thread - if you wanna get personal - lets do it via PM.

Please Edit - thanks

Im not a hippy - im a person running a business involving others - who travelled from Europe to put on shows for people paying to goto Glastonbury festival. Our fee to do that was small and the tickets we were given were part of our fee. I did not auction them only for myself.

How is auctioning them to friends and colleagues to help cover our expenses and fee's hypocritical? - What would have been hypocritical would have been to have sold them for the £600+ each that they were going for via Corporate touting.

As far as im aware - they were very happy to goto Glastonbury, with their vehicle etc.. for the amount they won the auction for.

Again can people divulging a personal transaction on this thread please refrain from doing so and edit their post. If you have an issue with what ive done please PM me, but putting it out on a Public Domain I dont feel is fair.

Firenix, I find it hypocritical of you to attack Durbs, Step, Dunc et al for being "unhippy" and not showing you love, when you you're not showing people that "hippy love" yourself, so to speak.

Either accept the terms and conditions of the festival, or don't.

i think we should introduce a new theme for PLAY every year

this year is NEGATIVE PLAY

the t-shirts will be black with PLAY in a scary dribbly blood-red font

we'll have workshops in backbiting, character assassination and general whining

Go on, you know thats an awesome idea.

At the very least, me and Meg would love it biggrin

LOL - yeah I'll bring the Black T-shirts only £200 each!!!
Seriously though - I agree on the group hug thing
This is all getting out of hand
I really wasnt trying to accuse the PLAY peeps of Corperate anything. They have done a great job over the last 3 years of building a festival for all us, with a no-profit ideal and for that they should and are applauded (I think I made a point of saying I meant the Mean Fiddler - Jeez they'll probably be on here threatening me with court action for defamation of cooperate character!!). I was merely trying to point out that £150 for ALL people who sell something (for instance a whip) or take an order is not realistic. I would be willing to pay a fee for a 'fly pitch' license if I was going to sell abit of stuff, but to be honest after this Im not going to bother and was never gonna fly pitch anyhow. I had been contacted by a few people previously inquiring about Whips etc.. and they said they'd come see me at PLAY - that was all.
I fully understand the PLAY organisation need to be fair with traders, but think there is maybe another way other than 'everyone that sells something (or takes orders) MUST buy a traders licence' - Maybe I didnt make myself clear and maybe I was over the top abit (for those that know me they realise this is a personality trait and not a personal attack!) - So can we leave the personal stuff out - If people wanna go there it should be in a PM.
So anyway - GROUP hug? and some...nay LOADS of fun and frolix at PLAY - Yayyy!!
