So I was at a club here in town that was actually playing some decent trance (OK, it was a bit mainstream and whitebread, but it was certainly better than any trance I've heard in a club for a while) and I pulled out my glowsticks. A club staffer descended like a hawk and told me that the cops call glowsticks "drug paraphernalia" and that I had to give her my glowsticks.

OK, I gave her my glowsticks because she's just doing her job, but the ACLU got in a lawsuit with the DEA over this regarding a club in Louisana. Apparently, nobody ever bothered to tell the Ann Arbor Police. So I've printed out a copy of the court ruling from the ACLU's website and wrote a letter to the club management suggesting that they "discuss this ruling's relevance to their venue with the Police." I also asked them to thank their staff member for her professional and appropriate approach (she was nice about it). I'm going to go over and tape it on their front door (the envelope is way too big to mail and it's just a mile away).

I hate this. I hate the way that this country just trashes civil liberties in the name of "safety." Then people wonder why I want to move to another country or why I get irritated at people who call the U.S. "the freest country in the world."

Anyways, I guess I just wanted to say to people that if you run into something like this, please don't try to argue with the club staffer. That just gets you kicked out, and besides, the staffer can't change policy; s/he's just trying to do his/her job. The pen (or the printer) is mightier than the sword in this case. Go home, get information off the ACLU's website, and try to get a letter to the club management. That's the way we win these battles.

I'll keep you all posted as to what happens.

Cede, it was necto.

Prometheus, after the last election, I quickly came to the conclusion that voting no longer works. Voting only works when you have an educated populace that understands the issues at hand. We do not have such a populace. We have a populace that is too easily swayed by logical fallacies and appeals to emotion and patriotism to really accomplish anything good by voting. As I've said, the USA is fat, lazy, and decadent.

Bush will win the next election. You watch.

JGG, the sad thing is that if Bush decided that due to our "national crisis" elections were no longer necessary, I bet a majority of the country would support him on it.

THAT'S why I want out.

cede: I'm from a spot where poi is still growing, as far as numbers go. You have poi battles down there? Like breaking battles or MC battles? That sounds wicked! Can you explain a bit about them to me?

Mike: Canada's always looking for new doctors, and we still have a fairly intact Bill of Rights. Seriously, the Maritime Provinces are constantly complaining about the brain drain to the U.S. (your money is just worth so damn MUCH. Who cares if it's got a few drops of blood on it?). We can always use more doctors, if you can handle having to stand firm on your right to every salary increase. Supporting socialist structures (health care, publicly-funded radio and TV (almost everyone here who gives a crap about art or news listens to or watches the CBC. There have been protests to keep it publicly funded. I love it ), etc. in the face of an outdated capitalist structure is difficult, but worth doing. Economically, this is because the end goal of socialist structures is sustainable prosperity. The nature of capitalist structures is perpetual growth, which is impossible without a) endless resources, or b) unequal distribution of the finite resources and an opressive system to maintain that unequal distribution. So inflation, driven by capitalism, means people involved with socialized industries have to push to keep their SUSTAINABLE salaries in step with the times.

Yeah, and not only are glowsticks legal, in many places here posession of small amounts of marijuana has been effectively decriminalized as well. Whether you smoke or not, it's heartening to know that a government was willing to set up a national task force to study pot and pot use, come up with honest findings, and then allow municipalities to implement relaxed laws based on this contemporary info.

blah blah blah. Backlog of POI postings anyone?

What I'm saying is, come on up and play.

peace and love, y'all.

Answer: "You and everyone else"
Question: "Who predicted Bush would win the last election and also think they are good in bed?"

You know... like how 435% of the population thinks they are "above average drivers" or something. [I read that on the internet so it's got to be true.]

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.
[They do not move.]
